I guess more info will be forthcoming, but per PFT, we cut three players during weightlifting this morning...

Though the names involved likely won’t register much of a reaction, the circumstances have gotten our attention. A little. (After all, it’s June.)

A league source tells us that, earlier this morning, the Steelers abruptly cut four guys, right in the middle of a weightlifting session.

Maybe the goal here was to send a message to the rest of the room, especially since the team got complacent after winning its last Super Bowl title, in early 2006.

Stay tuned for the formal announcement. It’s likely coming later today.

We heard earlier today that four members of the Steelers became former members of the Steelers during a weightlifting session.
Actually, six got the shoe.
They are defensive end Jeff Bradley, long-snapper Mark Estermyer, wide receiver Jayson Foster, wide receiver Cedric Goodman, quarterback Kevin McCabe, and fullback Ryan Powdrell.

We mentioned earlier today that the Steelers sent their version of Nate Newton to the weight room this morning to politely invite four players to get the hell out of the building.
Though the moves have not yet been announced, the spots apparently were needed for three more spots for rookies.
According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers have agreed to terms with third-round draft pick Mike Wallace, sixth-round pick Ra’Shon Harris, and center A.Q. Shipley.
Per Bouchette, the players signed three-year deals for the minimum base salaries. Wallace gets a signing bonus of $555,000, Harris gets a signing bonus of $64,000, and Shipley gets a signing bonus of $42,000.

If I were an UDFA rookie, and Lolley wanted to profile me next week, I think I might pass.

He could be like one of those cats who sleep at the foot of the bed of nursing home patients who will die by morning.

Really no surprise here. As the Steelers sign more picks more people will have to be let go. The draft choices count against the limit as they get signed. The only kid out of the bunch who I thought would have a chance as a PS player was Goodman if he had strong camps and played well in the preseason. Nothing more than a project player like Nate was. He was a track guy with limited college production. Decent size/speed ratio. But he went through minis without getting noticed. Black stood out and will stick around for awhile.
