Independence Day: Steelers And The Military...

Independence Day... The Fourth of July.

Yes, I know I'm jumping the gun by a few days, but I'll be out of town all week so wanted to get this started before I left...

What does it signify, and mean to you?... Is it eating hot dogs and burgers at a cook-out? Drinking beer with friends at said cook-out? Viewing fireworks? Watching Steeler highlights on the DVR?... How about "freedom", and the brave men and women that protect and serve so we have that freedom? Without them, we could not cook-out, drink beer, view fireworks, and watch Steeler highlights.

As I have said before, I did not serve, but have many co-workers that still fly in the reserves... I tip my hat to each and every serviceman that currently serves our country, or did in the past. A great many thanx needs to be expressed without a doubt... And the black-n-gold flies among our troops. I have seen alot of photos depicting it.

So if anyone has any comments or stories they wish to share, please post them here. If you have any photos of friends or family members that are serving or served in the past, post them here. Have you seen our colors flying proudly next to the Stars and Stripes?... Post them here. ... I came across a few cool pics that I'm posting, and will be looking for a few more before I go for the week. Please join me and do the same.

Besides, it would be a great tribute to any current or past member of the armed forces that might be gracing our presence this coming holiday weekend to see several pages of photos, comments, and "thank yous"...

To each and every one of you on foreign soil, or here in the U.S. .... "THANK YOU".

Above is a link to a story of a friend of mine that is currently serving in Iraq. This was a going away party that was thrown for him this past New Year's Eve. In the recent years, he has battled testicular cancer & has missed previous tours with his unit. He was given the OK to go with his unit when they left this past January. He didn't have to go, but he loves his country and his unit. He will be home for a few weeks in August then he will be back to Iraq. His tour is supposed to be complete in December. He says he hopes to have 30 inches of snow waiting for him when he gets off the play.

While Matt is a Notre Dame fan (one of the few college teams I love to hate), being in field artillery is tough duty.... I'm sure he really is wanting to see some snow!... The guy obviously has a heart as big as the shells he sends skyward.

I agree with you. ND is the Dallas Cowboys of college football. Him missing the ND season is like us missing the upcomming Steelers season. This may give me an incentive to cheer for them to have some success this year, since he hopes to be home around the time the Bowl games start. It'd be cool if he could see it.

        He also misses beer. Alot.

I'm sure there will be military personnel viewing this forum over the weekend, and "the more to view, the better".....

Well we don't have our Steelers gear on in this picture, but this is my dad and I. I was just a young one, old picture. I have his beret on, and a rainbow colored purse around my neck for some odd reason LOL.

I don't have anything with a Terrible Towel or where I'm sporting the colors, but I did find this old article where I happened to give a shout-out to the Black-n-Gold. It's a stupid article, full of misquotes and crap, but I'll post it anyway.
