Second fastest 40 time in the combine (not sure what the number was). Good deep threat, good return man, lacks an intermediate game. Played at the senior bowl but don't really know if he made any sort of noticeable impact.

            Analysis from NFL.com

Positives: Looks the part. Athletic build with room for additional mass. Rare straight-line speed. Eats up the cushion quickly and can blow by the defender. Smooth acceleration and has a late burst to pull away if being challenged. Can track the ball over his shoulder. Developing into a more reliable route-runner and pass-catcher. Has the foot quickness and balance to be a good route-runner and can sink his hips. Generally uses his hands to make the reception, though he still allows too many into his pads. Has some lateral agility to make defenders miss. Helped himself with a solid week of practice at the Senior Bowl.

Negatives: Still a work in progress as a route-runner. Learning to sink his hips and explode out of his cuts, as he has to gather himself too much. Struggles a bit against press coverage. Has to use his hands better to gain a quick release. Lets too many passes into his pads, resulting in some ugly drops. Doesn't consistently show the vision and elusiveness in the open field to truly capitalize on his pure speed. Needs an open lane as a returner to break off a big gain.

I also remember Mayock talking about him at the Combine and having good things to say. He seems to have all the tools and needs some coaching to flourish. I like the pick.

Mayock just said "one of the fastest human beings I've ever timed"

ESPN is too busy slurping on the Cheatriots and Giants picks.

                another great pick.

Fastest guy on the team the minute he steps into the lockerroom.

Faster than Santonio, similar hands, just not as developed. Better special team return man than Holmes. Instantly contributes.

They just talked about him on NFL network. And Frankthetank Tate went the pick before to the Patriots.

Mike Mayock just said he's the fastest human being he's ever clocked. Had him at 4.28 on his stopwatch. Also said he instantly upgrades the speed and athleticism of the Steelers.

i think the pats have had an awful draft. why take brace they dont need a nt? and patrick chung that high? at least espn still thinks bellycheat is a genius because no one else does. wallace is 6 feet 180 so he isnt a small wr. wtf why not duke?

Probably because he or Meredith can be had with our last pick in the 3rd.

Even in his college days, Ben has always severly underthrown WRs that go deep. I'm a little worried about this pick just for that reason. The Steelers need to stop trying out new WRs in the deep threat role. What they need to do is talk to Ben and let him know to pull the trigger earlier instead of waiting for a WR to get obvious separation.

Here is what ESPN says about him in detail:

Production 3 2004: Wallace signs with Oregon State but does not enroll or play football. 2005: Wallace enrolls at Mississippi 2005 and appears in 10 games that year. He returns four kickoffs for a total of 48 yards. 2006-'08: Wallace starts 28 of the 37 games he appears in catching a total of 101 passes for a total of 1,910 yards and 15 touchdowns. He carries the ball 11 times for a total of 97 yards and returns 56 kickoffs for a total of 1,343 yards and two touchdowns.
Height-Weight-Speed 2 Adequate height, adequate bulk and excellent speed.

                            Wide Receiver specific Traits
Separation Skills 3 Explodes off the ball and eats up cushions. Tempos routes well but a bit high coming out of cuts and needs to transition out of breaks better. Showed better-than-expected upper body strength at the combine but doesn't use hands well on film and going to have problems getting a clean release working against press coverage. Can get pushed around by bigger corners.
Ball Skills 3 Shows sound body control. Does a nice job of positioning body between defender and ball. Tracks the deep ball extremely well. However, lets the ball get to frame on occasion and can drop passes that should catch.
Vertical Speed 2 Goes from 0-60 mph extremely quickly and can run by most corners.
Run After Catch 3 Slippery open-field runner that can make defenders miss and flashes breakaway speed. However doesn't show great vision and won't break many tackles.
Competitiveness and Toughness 4 Does a nice job of going up and fighting for the ball. Willing to attack the middle of the field. However, needs to develop a mean streak. Effort as a run blocker is inconsistent.
