    Steeler themed pet names

No, I'm not talking about Steeler-themed pet names between yourself and your significant other (although if she calls you Steely McBeam in bed, more power to you).

I'm talking about names you've given to the animals that occupy your home. Can you guess the rather obvious names of my two pets?

In our family, my in-laws asked me to name all of their animals, and I went with an Irish surname theme, even though my mother-in-law is 100% Italian. They have two dogs named Farley and Clancy and a cat named Murphy. When we got our dog, he was mostly black, with some gold-ish accents. My job was to pick a name that was true to his black-and-gold nature and also meshed with the Irish precedent set by my in-laws pets. Name that dog!

Recently, we also got the kids a guinea pig. When naming it, my wife (who is half Italian) suggested we go with an Italian name instead of an Irish name, since he is a "guinea" pig (not too racist, eh?) But I don't argue with a woman who is half-Italian and half-German (That's two thirds of the Axis powers...if she has a Japanese great uncle somewhere, look out!) Anyway, the guinea pig's face is half black and half gold. So my job was to give a half-black animal an Italian-sounding name. Could it be any more obvious?

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Of course, Franco for the pig. (Laughing at O'Donnell for the dog...never would have thought of that...some people kick their dogs after a bad day, though...with a name like that, I might have been tempted to do just that, even though I am an animal lover and would never think of hurting him)

You could always call the dog Rooney.

I always wanted to name a dog Yancy.

I also would name a dog after an ex-beeyotch girlfriend just to order it around.

"LAY DOWN SUZY" "ROLL OVER SUZY" "BARK SUZY"

**Note Suzy is a fictitious name for illustrative purposes only.

            Re: Steeler themed pet names

Never named a pet with a Steeler themed name, and I currently don't own any, but I did lobby pretty hard to name my youngest son a Steeler name. Bradshaw and Lambert were some of my choices, but it didn't fly with the wife and we ended up with Cole. (She never heard of Robin Cole)

Then came the middle name, and I tried for the most obvious Cole Steel, but she thought it sounded like a porn star, (I knew the kid would take after the old man, so infact he would have the equipment to be a major star in the adult industry!)

But that got nixed as well.

My sister's dog is named Rooney for the very same reason. She also gave away terrible towels as wedding favors...

I dare say, she may be masquerading around on this board right now!!!

I want to name a dog Lambert or Polamalu. Or get two and do Roethlis and Berger... My fiancee wants a retired greyhound so I thought "bettis" instantly... get it... greyhounhd... bus... bettis... But if there is one breed of dog that is decidedly un-jerome, it's the greyhound... I'm shooting for Willie now.

When I was ten I had a doberman that I named Mel (after Blount of course) but he stayed around only for less than a year.... he mysteriously disappeared the same time my dad came home from the butcher with some strange looking steaks.

Seriously... we had to give him to my uncle because my other dog (a great dane that I've had since I was seven... oddly named Pooch) was not liking his new room mate.

                    Re: Steeler themed pet names

You know, I realize this may be going a bit too far, buuuuut . . .

Shortly after the Steelers won the SBXL, Mrs. Proud PIttsburgher sprung the news on me that we were expecting our third (got a little excited after the Colts game ). Anyway, we had a lot of trouble agreeing on names for our first two, so we decided to go another route, I agreed that she could name the baby anything she wanted, as long as I got middle naming rights. Normally, she wouldn;t have done it, but she had boy names she really, really wanted, and I rejected them. Anyway, she caved, and the little man was going to be named __________ Rooney ******. I convinced myself that Rooney was a pretty cool and unique middle name, and I really wanted the kiddo to have a name with a story that he could be proud of. Personally, I couldn't think of a better family than the Rooneys. Especially since he was born in a SB year. Anyway, after the hands were shook (I knew I should have gotten it in writting and noterized, but you live, you learn ) the deal was on. Then, after telling her family (not big sports fans and frankly, they just didn't understand) and some trusted friends, the fights were on and the deal, ended up being off. After the fact, she came back to me and rethought her decision, but it was too late. Oh well, I love my little guy just the way he is, but oh, what could have been.

Lambert would have to be a Rottie or a Doberman or a Pit Bull or something like that.

Pomeranians or Chihuahuas or Bichon Frise need not apply.
