    Mr. Pittsburghs 2009 Mock V1

    First shot.

    1st Round:
    OC – Alex Mack – California – 6’4” 316lbs
Mack is the #1 center available in the draft, and adds value as he can also play offensive guard. Mack should be able to solidify the interior of the Steelers offensive line for years to come. Justin Hartwig will be in the final year of his contract in 2009 so after gaining experience at guard for this season, Mack could possibly make the switch to center.

    2nd Round:
    CB – Keenan Lewis – Oregon State – 6’1” 195lbs
Lewis is a corner with good size and a physical presence. Four year starter in college. With Bryant McFadden more than likely on his way out for a larger payday, CB is a priority.

    3rd Round (A):
    NT – Terrance Taylor – Michigan - 6’0” 320lbs
Terrance is a load that will back up Casey Hampton this season and become the Steelers NT of the future.

    3rd Round (B):
    OT – Fenuki Tupou – Oregon – 6’5” 325lbs
Big offensive tackle that projects to right tackle in the NFL. Gives 100% every down. Good drive blocker. Most deficiencies seem like correctible mechanical mistakes.

    4th Round:
    WR – Quan Crosby – Texas – 5’9” 205lbs
Crosby is a small speedy WR with sure hands. He also returned kicks and punts in his Texas career. He is a solidly built WR with a low center of gravity which allows him to come in and out of his breaks quickly on his routes. Goes up to make the play. Is a bit old for a potential draftee at 26 years old due to playing 4 years of minor league baseball. Mature player who is a leader in the lockerroom.

    5th Round:
    TE – Bear Pascoe – Fresno State – 6’5” 260lbs
Pascoe is a huge TE with good pass catching abilities and blocks like an offensive lineman. Originally went to Fresno as a QB but adjusted to TE quickly and was a 3 year starter. With the amount of 2 and 3 TE sets the Steelers run I think a player like Pascoe could replace Matt Spaeth who struggles with his blocking assignments. TE in the Steelers sytem need to be able to block and catch. Spaeth can catch but Pascoe is more of an every down player to compliment Heath Miller.

    6th Round:
    FB – Javorkskie Lane – Texas A&M – 6’0” 285lbs
Former tailback that is huge. Amazingly he has run in the 4.7 40 range. Has never fumbled the football. Very reliable goalline RB that had 49 TD in his career. Could be a valuable short yardage and goalline back, something the Steelers could have used this season.

That is an excellant mock draft.

haha...all kidding aside, I like the flow and it covers all the bases. Lane was my favorite, its my dream to get a big fullback this offseason. Crosby was my least favorite...another Texas receiver?...5'9"?...but Im open minded

Great draft through Round 4 even though I think Mack will be gone and we will be looking at a choice between Unger, Loadholdt and Robinson if OL is the answer.

Don't like either 5 or 6 particularly Javorski who is lazy and has a serious weight problem. We need to quit trying to get the next "Bus" on appearance and recognize the real "Bus" was a once in a generation back. I'd seriously be looking DL in either Round 4 or 5 with guys like Kyle Moore, Zack Potter, Khalif Mitchell, etc.

You did not include our two Round 7 picks.

I wasn't sure of all of the picks that we had. I knew we potentially had 2 in the 3rd but wasn't sure beyond that. Thanks for the positive and negative feedback. I initially had Max Unger in the first thinking Mack would be gone but with Mack missing the combine to injury I have my fingers crossed. I also had Pat White in the 4th but chose a real WR that can also return kicks and punts. With Lane I really didn't have the Bus in mind, I just liked his low center of gravity for being a big dude and the fact that he didn't cough the ball up once. We could use a wrecking ball to punch those balls into the endzone rather than settle for FG. Maybe our strength and conditioning coach who won awards this season could turn some of his fat into muscle.

He looks pretty tough to me.

Edit: Although he looks tough in the highlight video, I also discovered this snipit and can't say the same thing.....

Not bad, but I think we really need to draft a DE-type somewhere in that mix. I'd say Rd. 2 with Gilbert, Maola or someone like that. I'd wait on the CB until Rd. 3/4. I think our priorities in the first four picks are OL, DL, DL or OL and then CB or WR.

                  NOT

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I am already kind of regretting Crosby and Lane. Crosby looks like a damn tough WR/KR/PR but I don't like that he is 26 already. Nate Washington is only 26 I think and he has been in the league a while. Lane, although his highlight video and size are intruiging, would probably be a wasted draft pick.

I like some of the names. I just don't see us drafting a WR, FB, & TE where we have really no needs unless someone falls far. I'm also wondering where you traded up the 2 7th round picks? I would be shocked if 3 out of the 4 picks in the first three rounds were not DL & OL. I think the other will be a CB. Being that Gay showed he could handle starting duty I think they will go 3rd round for a CB. I don't think Kemo or McFadden will be signed so Washington might be the easier of the remaining to lock up. If they could sign Washington at a 2.5 number I think that would be a good decision. This is a very deep draft at CB and there is "Mucho" raw talent at WR in the later rounds. There is no doubt in my mind that you could get a CB in the 3rd Rd that could raise a debate to have him start opening day if he picks up the defense. At the WR position, there is enough talent in the mid part of this draft to find a immediate #4 that could become a #3 in the future. I'm thinking (2) OL, DL, & CB with the 1st 4 picks regardless what happens in FA from here on out. If they loose McFadden, Kemo, & Washington they will try to address those positions in the draft. If they can't, we will see a typical veteran FA signing after the smoke clears. We have seen the "majority" of the Steelers FA activity the 2009 season already. Of course...We all thought the Steelers were going to draft 6 OL/DL & a KR last year so what do we know!!!

I like the Bear Pascoe pick a lot. Lane you should pass on, he gave up a season ago.

Cosby is a good receiver but I would put Deon Butler and Mike Thomas above him. Any one of the three will be a good addition though.

Overall I really like the mock...
