    Hines Misses Team Practice *UPDATED

This in from ESPN.com. Hines didn't practice with the team, but ran routes and practiced cutting on the side field. Not too different than any other Wednesday practice, although I'm sure some in the media will tell a different story....

    Ward Misses Steelers' Practice

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Pittsburgh Steelers' first Super Bowl practice in Tampa was like every other Wednesday workout all season. Wide receiver Hines Ward was on the sidelines.

Ward, wearing a small black brace on his injured right knee, did running and cutting on a side field as the Steelers practiced at the University of South Florida for Sunday night's game against Arizona.

Even if Ward had been healthy, it's almost certain he wouldn't have practiced. The 32-year-old Ward was held out of all Wednesday practices by coach Mike Tomlin to keep him from wearing down during the long season.

Ward is expected to be on the field Thursday, when the Steelers hold their final full-scale practice before appearing in the Super Bowl for the second time in four seasons.

"Hines is playing," Tomlin said. "I'm not worried about him."

The Steelers worked out for nearly two hours -- again, a normal Wednesday practice -- under sunny skies with temperatures in the 70s.

"It was a good start to our week," Tomlin said. "We practiced fast, and I thought we practiced aggressively. But it's like I say to the team after every Wednesday practice: It's a good start, but we've got to be better tomorrow."

Ward sprained his right medial collateral ligament during the AFC championship game against Baltimore on Jan. 18 and sat out most of the final three quarters. He has not missed a game this season.

    Re: Hines Misses Team Practice

I heard a quick interview with Tomlin on sports radio today....

Tomlin said that Hine's knee is doing great and that he wouldn't practice today as he commonly gives Ward and other veterans off on Wednesday....

Could be a smoke screen.....time will tell....

Ward said he wouldn't practice with the team until Thursday, at the earliest. Guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out what's going on.

He'll play....plus we have Sweed just in case!

Team meetings are at 9:00 a.m., not practice.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

TAMPA, Fla. -- Things are looking up for Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Hines Ward. So much so that Ward will practice with the team as scheduled on Thursday despite a sprained MCL that he suffered in the AFC Championship Game.

"Yeah, I will practice today," Ward said during Thursday morning's media session.

The Steelers have remained on schedule with Ward, and it is a good sign that he will be ready to go for Pittsburgh's Super Bowl showdown against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Ward sat out all of last week's practices in Pittsburgh in addition to the team's first practice in Tampa on Wednesday.

Ward reiterated that he will wear a knee brace this weekend and has found one that's comfortable. He just hopes that it doesn't take away too much of his quickness and agility against the Cardinals.

"I got my knee brace. I wore it all day yesterday and actually did some cone drills," Ward said. "I'm going to give it a go today."

James Walker covers the AFC North for ESPN.com.
