Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

Rudloph in one game was 11-15 , 115 yards. Wilson and Fields combined could not pass for many yards in three preseason games.SteelerOfDeVille
Didn't Wilson lead a scoring drive? That's all Tomlin needed to see. 2/2, 26 yards and a TD drive... "yup... we're good. Let's take care of that guy because he holds the key to the season. Go rest

I'm not alarmed at all...
I think Russ is just the ticket the doctor ordered. He plays the game like Tomlin wants and has for over a decade... if he stays healthy, this is easily a playoff team.
If they go to Fields, it'll feel like Kordell. Makes great plays with his legs, but simply recognizes open WR too late, too often.2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment

Joel, question for you.
In the 2nd preseason game, I was watching your guy Mark Robinson and saw flashes as a pass rusher. I think he could make it there.
What I saw was the heat seeking missile mindset that seemed like he could play OLB as a spot rusher as he learns the assignments. He felt Deebo-ish.
On the official depth chart, I saw 4 ILB and 3 OLB. Throw in a possible return of Holcomb and Robinson may be fighting with Matakevich for a spot..
Having said that, Robinson was listed as LB - feels like maybe they saw it, too, since they didn't choose ILB.

Robinson is a good two down run defender in the box who can tackle well and fight off blocks adquatley . He can be used on the blitz too, but he is poor in coverage. However is he not Queen, and isn't as talented as Wilson. As such he is a fine back up. A situatonal chess piece. He is best on the inside. A football player who seeks contact. I think he is best on the inside, not outside. The Steeler listing at linebacker is a generic listing. Is all situational football these days. Problem is that between Queen, Wilson, Roberts, and the likely return of Holcomb, there’s no reason to have him on this team at ILB(especially if you have Matakevich).
Noting that the only have three OLB, it makes me wonder.
Like you said, he can be used on the blitz. I also think he would be pretty good at setting an edge against the run.
He could easily be used as a situation pass rusher who initially does not have responsibility to drop into coverage.
don’t be surprised by a sneaky position change… That’s all I’m saying

Roberts is expensive insurance for us. There is little chace a player on his 2nd or 3rd contact will be packaged out at this point. Roberts isn't insurance, he is starting next to Queen. In Regards to Robinson, he is nothing more than a "hitter", that's why he will make the team as a special teams guy. He isn't a good 2 down lb'r nor is he good at playing the run. If he was good at playing the run the Steelers would have tried him at OLB.Comment
