    Sacks against

We have two mentally slow QB's that get rid of the ball after 3 seconds. Fields was sacked 12.4% of his pass attempts in Chicago. Under our line, it will be worse.

Then we have Russell Wison who is described as weird by players and is type to take a sack or throw it away...very aware of his " QB stats. "

Neither man throws the ball well over the middle.

This is OUR QB situation of 2024. If I were the coach I'd make it open season on the QB's in pracitce after 3.5 seconds or blow the whistle making the play dead. As in your sacked.

    UGH.

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

There is a body of evidence that sacks against is a QB stat, i.e., QBs that have high sacks tend to have them even after moving to new teams with new OLs.
If the Steelers can develop a strong run game it might help to slow the rush, i.e give more time to pass.... at least in theory. But if they get stuck in 3rd and longs it's gonna be a long day at the office.

The OL is by far the biggest concern right now, literally everyone is playing poorly. They just don't seem to understand Meyer's technique.

If this carries into October and November, you have to wonder if Meyer gets Canada'd mid-season.

No, it's QB by far. Both Fields and Wilson have led the offense off a cliff. If the QB's can't use their weapons and settle for the short stuff with say 80% of thier passes behind the sticks, I'll tell you what will happen. The opposing defense will move the 8th man in the box, and it will be harder to run the ball and we will be sacked like there is no tomorrow.

THROW the ball. Let Pickens do his thing. If an interception happens once a game, so what as long as we can pass the ball for say 250 yard a game, we wllll score 20+ points.

Sounds correct in theory but how do you explain Mahomes leading the league the last few years in throws BLOS? It can work but it does mean an OL that is uber mobile to the second level, and skill position players must block as well. Up to this point the Steelers have had lousy blocking TEs, and WRs that are disinterested in blocking at all. There's got to be a change in mindset from those players. The Steelers have a few pieces in Washington, Colletto. Need the WRs to step up for this to succeed, Pickens, Van Jefferson, Wilson (when he gets on the field), etc.

Comparing every QB to Mahomes is folly, wouldn't you say? Besides he is in head coach Andy Reid's offense, behind a good OL. That is my answer. To add more, KC's skill players at RB and WR are weak so they live off TE Kelce.

Colleto is not likey to make this team, as he adds 0 on special teams and is not used much as a FB. Washington is still out to lunch. His development is a major disappointment.

NOW, we have good skill players at WR, TE, and RB ( Pickens, Muth, and Warren ) but our slow minded QB's who hold the ball too long, & fail to quickly locate the open man, combined with our OL pass blocking issues prevent them from being used correctly.

              We saw the results.

Make sense? I think you will get my gist.

"QBs hold the ball too long", "QBs need to throw down field"; quick throws = shorter routes, down field throws = longer pocket times. Which do you want?
What is really missing are throws with anticipation, before receivers break or come open. KFP lacked it, Fields so far is lacking it, and I haven't seen enough from Wilson one way or the other. But in their defense, they haven't had a lot of time playing together. We'll see how it looks after a month of football.

I want a quick read for the QB's! A 1-2 read ( Look to throw it past the first down marker and the throw to the short man if he's covered finished in less than 3 seconds ) is what I want. If the D is playing man, run it with Fields. KISS.

                  Can our qb's do this?

Now this is not every time, like when we max protect and throw it deep. This should be our plan, until we draft a QB high! If I were Smith I would drill it into Fields head until he gets the message.

Forget Russell Wilson he is a washed up player.

I'm willing to give Wilson the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.
KFP and Fields share the same problem and you see it in their games. They are both trying to read a defense after the snap. Thus the long pocket times, and late throws. As one coach wisely said you can't do this in the NFL and be successful (long term).
In order to release the ball in under 3 seconds a QB must see the play before the ball is ever snapped.

You are correct on the last part. It is not fixable Wilson has been a shot player for two years. Fields give us the option of running the football and scrambling for 30+ yards a game. Now he can do damage. Just hold on to the ball!

His X OL who retired from the NFL. Wilson grew up unlike the other players as he was extremely well off. His personality just does not fit with the players.
