Be sure to call him Flabio to his face.

You're likely to lose a few pounds yourself from that.

And not just from the **** you'll leave in your pants

The video I posted has him without a shirt on. He's probably in the low to mid 20%s re: body fat. Maybe even high teens.

I think it's pretty clear that he's not "flabby" in that video. Especially on the OL scale.

Also, the assumption that the weight players are at the combine is a good football weight is silly.

All high end players that participate in the combine do everything they can to game the system. If you ever get a chance, pick up Tim Ferriss' 4 Hour Body. He trains with a combine preparation coach for like 48 hours and has insane improvements in the tests. But he didn't get any faster or stronger. Just learned the technique for the vertical jump.

So even if he was lighter for the combine, it's a way to game the process and get a better 40 time. When optimizing for playing football, players act differently.
It's pretty obvious from the picture I supplied of BJ at the combine that his body fat percentage is higher now compared to that video you posted. Only a blind man with no critical thinking skills would think otherwise.

            You can admit it man.

You threw on your blindfold; spun around a couple times; took a swing at the "Tomlin is a bad coach" pinata; and wildly missed the target.

            No big deal.

It's what we've come to expect.

What are you talking about? Not once have I mentioned Mike Tomlin in this thread but it's okay if you don't see my point and my concern about Jones. I won't hold it against you for being to lazy too do the research or use any critical thinking skills. Some people just don't have any.

Maybe it's just that you've lost the benefit of the doubt? Given your posting history, I think reasonable people would assume that when you say "not being told", you mean "TOMLIN IS RUINING JONES BY MAKING HIM FAT!!!!"

I really hope he's been pumping the weights again and not being told to get heavier at the expense of strength and athleticism.
It's also kind of a silly statement to include strength and athleticism. OL get heavier because they are stronger when they are heavier. The tradeoff would be to increase strength at the cost of athleticism.

The athletic training staff has crossed my mind in this thread but not Mike Tomlin. I assume that they are the ones who implement diet and exercise routines for those biggies on the OL. Perhaps they get instructions from the coaching staff but that doesn't even seem at all a possibility. It would make zero sense to me that MT would get involved in an area which isn't his expertise.

What I'm really talking about is explosiveness when I mention strength and athleticism. I don't think an OL necessarily needs to get heavier to be stronger if they are explosive enough. However, it's a very fine line between strength, power and explosiveness.

My guess is that OL are like gators. Faster than you think over short distances.

But to your original point, he is an offensive lineman not a bodybuilder. He will likely NEVER look like he did for the combine. He did not look like a lineman. He does NOW.

I repeat what I said earlier. Why are you worried about last season’s weight WHEN HE WAS DEMONSTRABLY ATHLETIC at that weight?

Sure if he keeps gaining and loses the athleticism it’s a problem.

But as long as his PLAY is athletic, I don’t care that he does not look like the Rock.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

                        TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

                          Speaking of the Rock?
He was a backup on the university of Miami defensive line while teammate Warren Sapp was the best lineman IN THE COUNTRY.

It was not because he looked pretty without a shirt on.

I think it's fair to be concerned about Jones because he was a little disappointing for me in his rookie season. What is the harm in talking about him? Most people would just conclude I'm a kook and an idiot. It's all good though.

Nevertheless, I expect a big season from BJ.

I am certainly not calling you a kook. Just kind of weird expectations for a lineman.

Jones in NOT EVEN FAT for his position. He was just in shape for the combine to shave a meaningless 10th of a second or two, and leap farther in a combine etc.

Consider this. If you NEVER SAW the combine pic would his weight occur to you at all?

He STILL needs to spend time in buffets to match the girth of this ncredibly svelte best tackle of this era.

Trent Williams could eat Kyler Murray and STILL be looking for dessert.

The OP in this thread is on to something it would appear. We can't deny that Jones has lost his explosiveness and power. It's so easy to see.

This will be a lost season for Jones being so far out of game shape. Perhaps if he gets back on a proper diet, starts hitting the weights and doing some plyometric exercises, he'll get back into form.

To the OP's credit we salute you for seeing what the other posters refused to believe. Kind of amazing that the OP saw this before preseason started.

My nickname for the OP is Meowler because he was a cool cat under negative fire from the crowd.
