Looking back at the off season

With just a few weeks until camp, I think it would be good to offer a retrospective look at what we did and share or thoughts.

    1. Fixed the QB position. While Pickett had his "fan boys," I think we have to all acknowledge he was underwhelming and he clearly lost the locker room by the end of last season when his teammates were supporting Rudolph. Wilson, who supposedly had a down year, had twice the number of TDs as all our QBs combined...on a team with less talent. Fields also did more on a team that was 7-10. Big upgrade.
    2. Fixed ILB. Queen has the most talent we have had at ILB since Shazier. Wilson may be "the steal of the draft" if he stays healthy and was close to the best LB in college football last year.
    3. Got a credible player opposite Joey Porter. Jackson is better than anyone we have had there for the past three season. Getting Cam Sutton back fills a major hole
    4. Offensive Line just keeps getting better. Big add with Fautanu...never thought we had a shot at him. Jones goes to the left where supposedly he is best. Frazier provides a future stud at Center. I expect Fautanu and Frazier will have bad moments at parts of the season, but most talent we have had since we lost Pouncey and Villanueva.

I'm still concerned about WR#2 but I'm not sure that story has had its ending written yet

Overall...really optimistic about this team and what we did in the off season.. Camp should be really fun seeing all the new talent.

I know I am in the minority. But, IF Jones ends up at RT and Moore at LT for this coming year, are you all going to consider the drafting of Fautanu a bust? Hope not, but I still see the best OL option with Moore at Left and Jones at Right.

Don't be upset if thats how it shakes out.

Carolina made the trade with Jackson for a reason; the dude had zero ints. last year and is on a downward trend. We STILL need a CB opposite JPJ. Just saying.

ILB isn't fixed because we still don't have a real NT, one of Tomlin's many faults is never securing a REAL NT. It has hurt our ILB since Tomlin has been here and he has never learned from experience. Never. Until we fix this huge NT issue, our run D will never be improved as we have to keep putting our FS up there to help out. Disaster.

Our QB issue sure isn't aided with no legit #2 WR on the roster, period.

Expect our rushing attack to be weak for the 1st half of the year; Tomlin adds predictability to our rushing attack which will be easily sniffed out by the competition come game day. Truth hurts sometimes.

We still need help at CB, DL, WR and OL. Those warts will come to the surface in 2024.

I'll just paint with a broad brush. Our teams final 53 will be about 40% different then only a year ago. Now change is expected but we had a high volume of change. We can't say for sure they are mostly changes for the better That will need to play out. We did pick up some plug n play guys at major areas of weakness.
We'll know some things by the end of the pre-season and we'll know a lot more by the end of the regular season.
I do think with the draft and offseason changes we had we'll be a better team in 24 then we were a year ago. How much better is the next question????

          Biggest concerns:

          - OL will take time to gel
          - Schedule is brutal, of course could change with injuries, etc.

If the first takes less time than I think, the second won't matter.

OL, especially under THIS regime (Tomlin, Meyer) always takes time to gel, regardless what is logical. I think it comes down to "undisciplined Tomlin" and all that comes with that.

I think a lot of that was because the talent wasn't great and they were playing people out of position.

Who's fault was that? Someone gots to be blamed even though the Steelers try to avoid that, accountability and all.
