    No more WR talent needed?

    https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/2024/07/01/pittsburgh-steelers-receivers-george-pickens-van-jefferson/

This article says we got all the WR talent we need with Smith's system. I'm not sure I agree but it's food for thought. Could Van Jefferson & Co. be enough. Gonna have to get more out of Austin and Mt. Washington I think though. We don't have a Henry-level running game to balance things out like he had in TN either; Najee ain't no Henry, that's for sure.

I think the one possibility we move on is bringing Treylon Burks. Other than that we may wait for camp cuts from other teams. Artie's offense will never be confused with Air-Coryell.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

I generally agree. However, the team still has nearly $16M in cap space. To not use that money on upgrading any perceived weaknesses would be somewhat of an issue for me. I know they can roll that cap space forward, but I hope Khan beats the bushes to find any and all additions to make the 2024 team as strong as possible.

I have to agree and fully think he will add some more talent probably at WR. And it may indeed happen after late cuts. Even at #1 we are hardly comfortably set. And then there are always injuries.

I agree for 2024, we have all the talent @ WR we are going to get. Our passing unit is capped with its upside because our QB sucks. That is the problem and there is no long term solution.

I do like the rookie Wilson @ WR and think he will surprise. I also think our OL will upgrade our rushing attack. Start the rookies! Run the ball.

Keeping it simple and stopping the offense are two different things.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

Don't the Steelers usually carry about $8M into the season for emergencies from injuries? If so, then you are talking $8M for a WR, which in this day, might buy you a 3rd stringer. They already got those.

Teams generally backload contracts and don't pay out annual averages evenly across years. Even if they want to hold on to half that cap space, it's more than enough to target a quality Number 2 guy.

Bad time to backload deals when we have to start extending people

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

                  TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

Not necessarily, Kahn is more disciplined with signing long-term deals it seems. There are some potential big names to sign but a lot depends on 2024.
                    https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/lists/full-list-of-steelers-2025-free-agents/

QB is a potential big one, but that could end up not being so. If Russ doesn't set the world on fire and win a playoff game and Fields remains about the same, meh. Draft a youngster.

Cam - He can take all his bluster and move on, won't be missed.

G Daniels. Should have able body to replace in McCormick.

CM Jackson. We will see how well he plays in 2024. May or may not be signed by Pgh, Drafting CB remains high.

TE Muth. We'll see if he really blows up this year, we keep waiting.

The rest are ham and eggers, no sweat.

It is too early to talk about the next draft, but QB is a high priority. Pick #1, I say. If we need to trade up to get a " franchise " guy, so be it.

Cam play will be missed, but the man is not in his prime and is rapidly approaching the steep decline of a past his prime player. Give him a special retirement, he has earned it.

Daniels and his 8+ million dollar salary is gone next year. I have high hopes for rookie McCormick.

'Muth is an above average starter, with a glass body. He is hurt too often and he is young. Not a good combination. Not a man I want to give a long term deal to in free agency.

Khan must cut the expensive cap killers. He is a talented draft guy and trade GM. But is it perceptive in terms of giving a long term for a player's second or third contract? I say he is mediocre here.

I think it is premature to judge Khans handling of 2nd and 3rd contracts.

I'm still willing to give Kahn the benefit of the doubt. Has he screwed up in the area of signing vets to bad 2nd and 3rd contracts yet? I was looking for him to budge badly in the Cam situation; he has not done so yet, even with Cam applying all the negative PR he can so far. It hasn't worked.
