I have given some thought about our new players and draft. And who they will be eventually replacing.
I have also looked long and hard at the team, a team that has not won a playoff game in SEVEN years and counting. We are not going anywhere this season. In fact we aren't likely to win a playoff game and could very well be below .500 this coming season.
Now that the Steelers committed to three more years of Tomlin, which I certainly do not approve of them doing, we need to take a hard look in the mirror. A hard look.
It is time to hit the restart button, and stop playing baid aid by signing expensive free agents. That does not work. It's a recipe for mediocrity. It's time to get rid of the locker room lawyers who are not very good players. It is time to think about the future and forget the medium level players moving off the first contact.
Now having said that, here is what I hope is done.
1. The OL has three rookies who IMO have the potential to start as rookies. . I say the sooner they start, the better off the team will be next season. If Moore and Davis are not much better than the players behind them, I say so F'n what! Play the young guys even if they are ready yet. In 2025 both Moore and Daniels will be unrestricted free agents. Start Frazier at center too. All three men. Troy F, Frazier and McCormick are good run blockers. All three men are good movers. So start the young guns, Let them learn and take the leaning process, Remember we are rebuilding for next year.
2. Quarterback. Start Fields. And let him run some. Run the ball, with our backs. Pass when needed. This offense needs a QB who can pass well. We have nothing but casts off who 1 ) are learning a new offense and 2 ) are free agents themselves next year. Pardon me, but we are as %()@ked as L______N who does not like to munch the carpet. Thankfully each player is signed for one year for dirt cheap. If Fields gets hurt, big deal we play Wilson. You can put lipstick on a pig, but you're only doing it for cosmetic, fan bating smiles. We are rebuilding. Next year we DRAFT a QB high. Maybe Fields is the answer, maybe he is not. But it's not like we got him on his rookie deal for 4-5 years for cheap on the cap. We currently have no long term plans at QB. We have no long term plan @ QB.
3. Move off ALL players that undermine the team especially if they are off first deal contracts. Please trade N Harris if possible. Warren has passed him and had a lot less wear and tear on him. If a trade can't happen, play Harris in a diminished role this year. With 17 games a #2 back that is cheap as Harris is for one more year is okay, but the moment he acts up enforce the team rules. That guy you missed all of mini camp. I say he is a disgruntled player who is not showing up because he was not offered a 5th year deal on his contract as is clearly unhappy with the Steelers. Then we have Sutton who soiled us with his domestic violence ways.
Now I am not one to tank the season. I am not suggesting we do so, rather I am for starting the players with upside and getting the diva's on the first bus to Cleveland. Oh and no more mediocre starters that make over 6 million on the cap.
I do love our rookie class, and this includes the free agents.
