    Name these prospects

NFL.com draft profiles of two players the Steelers have recently drafted to play center. Hope the NFL is way off on this.

A: 6'2", 305lbs, 32.25" arms, 10.125" hands, NG Stats score 79, Prospect grade 6.21 (eventual average starter), comp: Seaumalo

B: 6'3", 313lbs, 32,25" arms, 10.875" hands, NG Stats score 77, Prospect grade 6.17 (good backup, may eventually be average starter), comp AQ Shipley

I'll guess Kendrick Green and Zach Frazier.

      I gave good clues .

Yes, in order. Surprised to see Zach graded so poorly. Van Pran was in the same range. GB and JPL were the top two.

I think that they grade KG so high should tell us what they can do with their OL evaluations.

Hmmm, Dave and Alex said on their draft review that Frazier has the lowest upside of the first four picks. Sounds like a safe, high-floor guy, not necessarily the next great Steelers' center.

Yup, I think he is much more SAFE than EXITING.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

            TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

              You never know.

I'd always bet against a guy who was just drafted being an elite player.

I think part of the reason that people are saying that Frasier has a lower ceiling is because he doesn't have an awesome RAS score. But part of that is that he was recovering from a pretty significant injury during the off season. That doesn't mean he'll be "great". But I think it's probably fair to say that a guy who didn't get months to specifically train for the "underwear olympics" looks "worse" at those events than guys who were optimizing 40 times vs. rehabbing a fractured leg.

Either way...let's say that Frasier is a solid, but maybe not spectacular C. But he plays plays for two or three contracts. And we end up being competitive and maybe even winning a SB in that time.

In that situation, a 12 year player with a SB ring would probably be looked upon pretty favorably. Especially OL, who don't really have any individual stats.

Maybe a guy like that wouldn't have all the Probowls (9) and 1sat team APs (2) that MP had. But a ring would mean a lot IMO

I wonder do these people who have developed these grading/ evaluation systems go back say 5 or 10 years later and check how their high graded individuals are faring against their low graded individuals?

Frazier compared to Greene. Come on I haven't played Center in 53 years and I could have done a better job then Greene did.

Frazier is 300 + and he was a state wrestling champ for what 3 or 4 years in the big boy class. This kid can use his hands and he'll just keep getting stronger. If he doesn't get hurt he will start for 10 years. He's the perfect fit for a Steelers.

Plus, unlike Green, Frazier is a Center.

True. Greene (who BN referred to) was a TACKLE not a center. The defensive kind.

My guess is that the answer to this is "hell no!".

There is absolutely no accountability in grading draft picks.

And if there was, I think we'd see that the people who do the grades generally don't fare all that well consistently over long periods of time.

It seems to me that grading draft picks is like picking individual stocks. There are probably some unicorns out there who can do it well in big samples. But is it because they're actually skillful? Or are they just the monkeys that ended up tapping out Shakespeare on the typewriter. Unfortunately, NFL GMs don't get to draft the index (a fractional share of all the picks). So they're kind of forced into a losing game IMO.
