    Draft Day Trade

Anyone think we could make a player trade during the draft?

Theres been talk of guys like Aiyuk and Sutton.

I wonder if Khan could swap picks and make the trade really swing in our favor.

Could we swap picks with SF or Den in a round and land Aiyuk or Sutton? There could be a path to having the same number of picks and freeing ourselves up from having to use one of those picks on a WR.

I also wonder if we could do something similar for a proven C, CB, or DE?

I just have a feeling we might do something different during this draft because we?re going into the draft with holes we need to address. We haven?t gone into the draft like this in recent years where we didn?t at least have some backup plan at every position.

I would always bet against a trade happening.

But I think the odds with Kahn (and cheap QBs) are higher than they were with Colbert (and an expensive QB).

Not having a big QB contract gives us a lot more flexibility for a lot of things. For example, we've gone all of TJ's contract without restructuring it. When we had Ben, we had to restructure multiple guys every year to get under the cap because good qbs (like Ben) are expensive.

So I think we have the flexibility to trade for someone like Aiyuk. But I think SF wants too much. If I was going to spend a 1st on a WR, I'd probably rather just draft a WR (every year seems to have the Best WR Class EverTM) instead of spending the 1st round pick and giving the more established guy a big contract right away. But maybe we can wait them out and the price drops (similar to the Fields deal, but the price won't get that low IMO).

id generally rather draft a guy, but what if you could swap 1sts and get Aiyuk while we?re on cheap QB contracts?

then we still have a 1st and can still likely draft another player that can contribute this year.

plus while we would have to spend money for an aiyuk, at least you know you would likely get high end production vs a crap shoot with a draft pick that may or may not work out.

and there could be some hidden value in aiyuk where he couldn?t hit his full potential with so many other weapons around him.

if we have 2 big WRs that are hard to cover on the outside and focus on the line in the draft, this O could get really good really fast.

Hey guys!! I’ve been reading that Buffalo really wants Brian Thomas and that there’s a possibility that we trade back with Buffalo ( allowing them to get Thomas) while picking up a second & 5th round picks.

I believe the Steelers are very close to a deal with SF for Aiyuk. It will likely look like a draft day round 2 this year and a 3rd this year or next. My issue isnt the draft picks. It’s 25 million per year that he is likely wanting. But the guy is a top 5 WR in my book.

he's good, but definitely not top 5.

i guess it depends how you look at it. He was 7th in overall yards with far fewer looks. SF has other weapons to spread the wealth.

I like Aiyuk, I think he's very good.

but that's what worries me, how much of his productivity is a result of Shanahan's scheming, San Fran's great OL and run game, and opposing defenses also needing to worry about CMC, George Kittle and Deebo Samuel?

They just saved 7 million in salary cap with restructuring Highsmiths contract. Could it be used for a possible trade?

While the timing might seem suspicious Aditi Kink. says it nothing more than standard housekeeping budgeting for the offseason.

WR salaries are out of control. I'm really torn. I'd love to have either Aiyuk or Sutton, but not sure I want that much tied up in one receiver with Pickens on the horizon.

It might be the smart play. I have said since the end of the season that we have a three year window with our defensive stars. If you look at the moves made, I think the front office ses the same thing which is why they bring in Wilson and consider the trades for WRs.

Reportedly, the 49ers won't deal him except for a first-round pick. Too rich for my blood. And I'm with you about the money. Don't know if we need to be giving up that much $$$$ for a WR in an Arthur Smith offense.

Thats old news. Things have changed since Aiyuk went public with his distain for SF not paying him. SF has many mouths to feed and they wont pay Aiyuk what he wants. It’s rumored he asked for a trade and the price has dropped. For a first I agree. But for a second? Sign me up.

Shawn always enjoy talking draft related matters with you. I also like Aiyuk as a fit for us. Does San Fran have any real leverage with Aiyuk? Sometimes these disgruntled players (wr 's more often then not) are traded below market value just because the team feels they became a cancer. We have had our own experience with this.
Bottom line the asking price is the key here with Aiyuk. To me 2nd rounder is to rich. I'd hold off and see if we could pick him up a bit later.
