REPORT: Steelers looking to acquire top-tier wide receiver

REPORT: Steelers looking to acquire top-tier wide receiver

    Curt Popejoy
    March 19, 2024

This offseason has been the busiest ever for the Pittsburgh Steelers. It is clearly a new team and a new standard with Omar Khan as general manager. So far this offseason the Steelers have signed a new starting quarterback, linebacker and punter. They also traded away one troublemaking wide receiver for a starting cornerback and fleeced the Chicago Bears for a potential franchise quarterback in Justin Fields.

But according to Steelers beat writer Gerry Dulac, the Steelers aren?t done. Dulac says the team is planning to pursue another top wide receiver. We don't think this is veteran free agent Mike Williams. Here are some options out there the Steelers might be willing to trade for:

    Brandon Aiyuk, San Francisco 49ers

    Stefon Diggs, Buffalo Bills

    Davante Adams, Las Vegas Raiders

    Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings

    Deebo Samuel, San Francisco 49ers

This offseason has been the busiest ever for the Pittsburgh Steelers. It is clearly a new team and a new standard w

I'm not buying it. With the draft being very deep this year at wr and our solid history of selecting wr's I believe we'll just draft a receiver.
In this offseason you can never be sure of anything. I'm not ruling out a wr in the 1st but I would believe on day 2 where we now have 3 selections we'll take a shot at getting a replacement for DJ.

I'll pass. The give up would be too much and then the cap hit on top of it would prevent us improving other areas. Too many really good WRs come out every year in the draft.
"My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"

Exactly my thoughts. I still think we sign a bigger name receiver in free agency as well. Maybe Williams, maybe Boyd.

I did read Kahn was looking into possibly trade for Deebo Samuel. No link, might be BS.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

Samuel's base is 2nd in the NFL this season at $21M. Add to that DJ's $6M dead cap and you have a lot of money tied up in WR1(2?).

Who are you looking at for a day 2 pick? They keep saying how deep this draft is at WR but I?m not seeing many difference makers who can make an impact this or even next season past the first round. I think its front end heavy. Maybe you see someone I havent seen.

i want a top tier WR but I dont want to sell the farm for it. Moats was advocating for the Steelers to send Pickens and two firsts for Jefferson. Thats crazy talk. I do not want to give up a first or Pickens for a WR. What?s your solution?

Boyd or bust for me. Williams maybe but I mean I doubt 6 months from ACL surgery at 30 he will be even a shadow of his former self.

I don't want either. I think if those are our only options let's just go to the draft for WRs.

Well I like McConkey. That 4.39 sold me cause he can really get into n out of his cuts. Good hands , good route running and add speed along with big time program not much to not like. Also like Walker and Pearsall who are solid size speed guys. Showed how athletic at combine.
They are not the only guys. I even like Rice. He is just a guy that imho will work his way into a top receiver. Not the biggest not the fastest not the best at getting his feet down but I would not bet against him.

McConkey is a solid route runner but I doubt he will be there in the second. Pearsall is not ready to start nor is Rice. Solid prospects but doesn?t help next year.

Legette in the 2nd rd fits Smith's offense to a T. His size, speed, physicality and aggressiveness is what the offense needs. Oh, and he can catch too. His comp is Cordarelle Patterson.

Without knowing about or considering the contract situations of those top tier wide receivers I would choose Justin Jefferson hands down.

He was my number 1 WR of his draft class. I suffered all kinds of verbal abuse for saying so on my mock draft YouTube channel. Ahh, the good ole days when I had that channel.

I heard that too. I have never seen Moats suggest such an insane idea. Then he argues his case by comparing JUST Pickens and Jefferson (who would you rather have) while ignoring that he suggested 2 ones as well.

NO RECEIVER IN HISTORY is THAT valuable.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher
