My QB Choice in the Draft is....

I don't how realistic it is but if I was a decision maker for the Steelers, I would think about picking Michael Penix in the 2nd or 3 round. Perhaps we could move down from the first pick, draft our center and add another pick in the process.

Then we could move up earlier in the 2nd round with that extra pick and draft Penix. Pure fantasy but we do have the Khanman, so if anyone could pull it off it is him.

I recognize Penix's injury history and that is a valid point. I feel like Penix is the best pure passer in the draft. Yes it is true he's not as accurate when he moves around the pocket but if our OL protects Michael he'll throw lasers with precision all season long.

My thinking is superior to you Americans because Canada is a better football nation and we have the best player on the planet Chase Claypool.

Wait a minute I gotta get my crack pipe.

The US is pretty darn good at hockey these days. I was telling my dad that the US is producing the best talent in the world these days in the sport. They don't send as many players to the NHL as Canada but they are catching up in a hurry. The US college hockey system kicks ass at developing high end talent.

The skill level of those players is amazing. Makes the game exciting to watch. From my point of view I fear the US hockey team more than any other nation.

We won't be burning a pick on a QB until the latter rounds. Right now, Justin Fields is wearing the QB of the future tag. I'm sure any QB we draft will be purely developmental.

I think you're 100% right. Doesn't mean that I wouldn't do things different. Thank you for the reply. I value your opinion a lot. You're a very good poster.

Pennix probably gets picked before us at #20 . Not that he should but this qb draft class is being too enamored and every day you look and these QBs are flying up the charts.

They said that exact thing about Kenny. Many mocks had him at 8. People who thought we preferred Willis based on mocks forget that Kenny was gone in many of those mocks.

Opinions vary GREATLY on Pennix. Some love him some don’t like him at all.

His availability will depend on the view of him of one or two teams. I do not think he falls to our second pick.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Penix or maybe Milton in later rounds. He can sit for a year or 2 because he has the arm but is pretty bad at reading defenses.

In the US I’d say our collective knowledge of the sport has surely increased greatly.

                    Here is an example:

                      51. Pittsburgh Steelers: Michael Penix Jr., QB, Washington

In 2023, Penix completed 65 percent of his passes for 4,903 yards, 36 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He scored three rushing touchdowns as well. The former Indiana Hoosier turned in a breakout season for Washington in 2022. His previous high total of 1,645 yards in 2020 was almost tripled, as he threw for 4,641 yards while completing 65.3 percent of his passes for 31 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also ran for four touchdowns.

The Tampa, Florida product Penix has a live arm and can fire missiles downfield. He is at his best throwing downfield outside the numbers. Penix needs to improve his footwork, and field vision as he will throw into coverage constantly. The 6-foot-3, 214-pounder has some athleticism and running ability to make some things happen with his feet, but he needs development to become a more consistent passer and see the field adequately to start at the pro level.

Nix is he there at pick #20. You can build around him a passing attack. Pennix is an injury wating to happen.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

Penix' injury history and lack of mobility are a concern, but he's got the best arm and I've read he may be the best processor/football IQ in the draft.

Still, Fields is the lottery ticket young QB right now, don't see this happening. Build the OL.
