    If We're Going For a One-Year Shot ...

... at the Super Bowl with Russ Wilson, then let's really go at it. Trade Pickett and Pickens for Justin Jefferson and sign Tyler Boyd or the next best available FA WR.

I know the $$$ required for JJ would probably not allow this, but a fan can dream, can't he?

Very Bold. Money for JJ would probably be terrible cap issue now and for the future I believe. That would probably negate the great savings of the Russ contract.
Still Need a few more players yet. And still need some sort of plan for the future as the Steelers always seem to do. Even it it fails. Nothing wrong with going in with Russ, but I don’t see a Rams type of all in overspending and using draft picks in trades.
More of a not the normal Steelers way. Just a tad amped up offseason. Probably does not work for a SB but good entertainment.

I like Tyler Boyd but folks are talking
like he is Chase or Higgins.

        We aren’t trading Pickens.

Pickens can be special...particularly if he matures. I get that you're looking for a one-year shot, but you're doing that with complete abandonment of the future. I'll take Pickens on a rookie contract all day over Jefferson and his contract demands, and use that money to beef up other areas of the roster. Despite my doubts, I'm also not ready to toss away Pickett and have zero options behind Russ.

No thanks. We'd have a better shot this year just by beefing up our trenches and getting another playmaker outside. Pickett for Jefferson does nothing to address the Number Two receiver spot.

If Russ plays well, it's not a one-year shot. Probably more like 3-4 years.

We need to think beyond one year with a player like Pickens.

I would actually be okay with Pickett going to Minnesota. Would love to see if he could thrive there or if we just missed by drafting him.

I think Pickett was held back by Canada and is a legit QB.

We aren't trading Pickett either. And Boyd would be a #3 and a good citizen - you'd still need a #2

Draft him and start him. Can't wait around.

I'd be surprised. I think if he plays well, there will be a bidding war for his services, driving his price higher than what the Steelers will want to pay.
And if he doesn't play well, you don't bring him back at age 36 for another contract.

I expect Russ will be a one-year rental.

At that point, you'll be choosing to "run it back" or pay Kenny his 5th year option.

IMO, it depends on HOW well Russ plays. If Russ starts and wins a ring, all bets are off

I agree KP was held back by Crapada. But I have not seen anything to prove he is better then average at best right now.
Only great QB quality I see is he is not fazed and has that clutch ability to drive the field when down in close games. But his QB metrics are so bad. Some of that is Crapada offensive system and his play calls. But again average. I believe it’s back to the draft soon for another QB.

What if Russ starts but only helps win 1 playoff game. What to do then? Do you pay him real QB money?
Very Interesting how this Hail Mary will work out. Good entertainment.

Depends on the circumstances -- if the roster carries him to that playoff win, you move on. If he carries the roster, different story.

Probably ends up somewhere in between.
