Can we get a 2nd round pick for WR Johnson?

The Steelers may be ready to part ways with Johnson. Now Johnson is what I call a very good #2 WR, but Pickens is clearly our #1 WR.

In my opinion Khan is guilty of saddling the Steelers with a cap busting contract on Johnson. He is not worth that cap amount and Khan who I think overall has been good as our head GM really screwed this one up.

By my best guess no team will eat his cap# via a trade. So the Steelers are stuck with a very expensive #2 WR who is a diva and has created problems in the locker room.

But IF some teams were to offer us a second round pick for Johnson when it's our turn to pick in round 2, and there are some target WR's on the board, I say ADIOS to Johnson.

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

100% gotta pull the trigger on that deal. I don't think DJ will be re-signed so get what you can and a 2nd rounder would be great, definitely possible.

Juju never played under Canada, imagine how wide his eyes would open going to the Chiefs or Niners.

I would definitely take that deal. I’m not a DJ fan but I will admit when he is on his game he is worth the cap hit. Problem is he is rarely on his game. Dude is a head case.

Could DJ be a difference maker in this new offense? Maybe.. but the problem is a guy like DJ could be a cancer if he bumps heads with Smith AND I think that rubs off on Pickens.

I think Pickens will shine without DJ and part of his pouting was due to DJ getting balls forced to him when he returned from injury.

Well if it was on draft draft day it would more likely be when the other team is on the clock not us. However on March 16th for those that have done their homework Johnson is due $3 million in a roster bonus. So I would have to believe most likely if he gets moved it's before that date and thus not on draft day.
However if we did move him on draft day though a 2nd seems great I would lean more to us getting a 3rd round selection. For what it's worth Arizona who may be in the market has 3 picks in round 3.

Two of their 3rd rounders might not be too bad of compensation
            I'd still rather have a 2nd

Word is its a deep WR draft. ESPN radio said it might be difficult for Mike Evans to get paid due to how deep it is. Predicting 6 or 7 drafted in the first round. I doubt that.

I don’t think its that deep. Evans is getting older but he is still a beast and we know WR’s don’t always pan out.

Will be interesting to see if and when we draft one this year.

Pickens has the talent to be a dominator at the position, he'll be fine. It did seem like DJ was getting the ball like every pass for a while lol. Can't believe we were watching an NFL offense out there.

Since we're trying to develop a QB, I think we'll probably keep DJ since he's very good at getting open.

But if we can't extend him at a price we like by the draft, I could see us making a trade so we don't let him walk for nothing.

I think Omar said we were in talks with him about an extension (before abruptly stopping the sentence).

If this report isn't just pure speculation (which is what I'd guess), maybe it's the team trying to put pressure on talks on a restructure?

lmao.. well, I guess Tampa agreed with me. Just reported that Evans resigned for 2/52 with Tampa.

This also means Baker isn’t going anywhere. No way they resign Evans without locking up Baker.

I've been saying for months, when the "crazies" were talking about trading Pickens, that DJ was the one who needed to go. I still believe that with a very deep WR draft coming up.

+1. Will Arizona take his expensive contact? If they will I'd be fine with a third round pick.

This is a deep WR class.

Those same people where cheering for Pickens when he was running to daylight vs Cincy.

These same people probably booed Mason during preseason.

Fans want instant gratification. You don’t trade a talent like that on the cheap unless he is a dud… like Claypool. lol

$15 Mill isn’t expensive these days for a #2 WR to a team like AZ. They tend to overpay for services IMO.

I've probably been a bigger fan than most of DJ because I love his skill set. That all ended on one play last season. I think that moving on from him both helps the locker room and serves as a wake up call to others (Pickens) that there is a right way and a wrong way to do things, and the wrong way gets you sent packing. I wanted him benched for at least the first half of the next game, and even though he did straighten out afterwards, he learned that there are no consequences.

BTW, he is due a roster bonus so if they are moving him out, it will be very soon, not at the draft.
