JJ Watt says PFF is corrupt

Just saw a "tweet" on X

Anyone who has a background in statistics probably already knows this. I know PFF is the nerd's bible for finding damning facts, but one the Watt brothers think it is garbage

Watt used to quote tweet PFF all the time when they were calling out his elite level play. They've invited him on the show to discuss, but he's turned into yet another former player hot take machine who has nothing to backup the garbage he spews, so he's likely to chickenshyte to have an adult discussion.

meh.. its like voters and unemployment/job stats. The numbers are legit when they work in your favor. When they don’t, its bogus stats.

Why would JJ Watt go on a show to give these nerds a boost in their ratings? PFF is too arbitrary IMO.

Windy, I know that I can talk smack and it results in your not giving real thought to my argument. But I really want you to give consideration to my core beef with pff.

If pff metrics were the be all end all the result would tend to be corresponding counting stats. What do I mean?

        As an example win rate.
The point of win rate is to judge a defender on the part of the play that is the least affected by variables related to other players.

This means QB speed of release, coverage, whether a play comes your way, whether your burst results in a QB running towards another defender who makes the play etc do not factor in how a defender is judged. This is because those factors involve others rather than isolating individual play like win rate does.

Thus the penchant for isolating individual plays to make the pff case. We get that and to an extent it has merit.

But here is where their methods fall flat. If you get a large enough sample size those variables will tend to even out. And if TJ has a win rate that is bested not just by Garrett but by A NUMBER of edge rushers, yet TJ CONSISTENTLY makes MORE PLAYS season after season it reveals that TJ is WITHOUT QUESTION a FINISHER without peer.

At some point it simply CANNOT BE just that TJ gets all the breaks that nobody else gets.

And FINISHING is the goal. Winning at the LOS is just a piece of how you get there.

That is why you cannot simply ignore traditional stats and over value pff metrics.

This same PRINCIPLE applies across the board and across positions.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

While CORRUPT might be too strong a word I DO have a theory about their metrics that would explain why they do what they do. I will share it later.

Take it up with PFF, CL. They're readily available on X.

To what effect? You cannot persuade someone with a financial interest in promoting their own system as superior to the obvious.

Maybe they can explain it better than I have...I have clearly failed in that regard.
