Wanna know another surprising stat that i just read?
Mason is second in the league with TDs over 60 yards. That?s insane given he only started 3 games.2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment

Something like what Jacoby Brisset just earned. I suspect Mason will be worth $7-9 mil per… AND camp will be a true QB1 battle
This is subject to change if the team pulls an upset or two in these playoffs.2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment

If I'm reading this correctly, his dead cap hit is $3M less than his cap hit if we keep him.

If we keep him he has to be in street clothes for 17 games. He zaps the confidence out of the locker room anytime he plays.Steelers 27

Here's what I think is important:
- His salary next season is $4.25M.
- He has a roster bonus of $1M (probably due sometime in March)
- He has $4.6M of prorated signing bonus left that hasn't hit the cap yet. We can take that all next season (pre Jun1) or split it between this season and next season (post Jun 1).
My guess is that we cut him before his roster bonus is due. That way we're "saving" $5.25 M against the cap. But we take the $4.6M dead money cap hit right away. I know that designating guys as post Jun1 cuts is a thing...but I don't know if you can do that and not pay the roster bonus? The thing I don't get is why OTC has this as almost $3M in cap savings for a pre-Jun1 cut. I think it should be a bit under 1 (5.25 - 4.6). [Edited to add: I think I get it now. I think they only count the prorated money brought forward $2.3 M. Because we'd pay the prorated amount for this year either way.]
I think the reason players like roster bonuses is that it means that you can't wait until after Jun 1 without paying them. If we waited until after Jun 1, I think we'd save the $4.6M salary, but pay the $1M roster bonus. Then get the dead money of $2.3M cap hit next season and the season after.

Either way, it seems like we've decided that he's no good to us on the field. So I expect that he'll be cut. And probably before his roster bonus.Last edited by Northern_Blitz; 01-09-2024, 12:55 PM.Comment

Pre June 1 - Cap hit $4.6M - Savings approx $3M
Post June 1 - Cap hit $2.3M each of next two years - savings $5.25MComment

To a degree, read that this is the 8th game he's been a 9.5 pt dog or worse, 1-6 so far, only win last year vs. Tampa.
But yeah, in general he does a better job getting the team ready when he feels threatened. When AZ comes to town and the team is winning, he's at his worst and it's never gotten better over the years. It's cost seeding and even playoff appearances over the years.Comment
