    Where's The Defense?

Expected the Steelers defense to be top 10 in this stat but they are solidly average.

Our D has been good at getting turnovers, at least in the first 5 or 6 games

but overall, they've been underperforming relative to what they're paid (top paid D in the league)

Two of the highest 3 players have missed large chunks of the season.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

      TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

Seeing us and San Fran in the middle doesn't always tell the entire story. Teams will scheme shorter routes into their game plans if they know a team has players that can get to the qb. That is where stats regarding pressures can be skewed somewhat.

SF started off hot and then cooled off. We get turnovers and hold teams to FG’s but we give up a bunch of yards.

Our biggest issue is 3rd and long and penalties on 3rd downs.

When the offense doesn't move the ball your defense is on the field more thus gives up more yards.

its this zone defense. Tons of miscommunication and guys running 10 yards open.

I would like to know why we aren’t getting pressure like we used to do.

For all of their pressure, big plays, and redzone efficiency, this defense has pretty much sucked this year. They cannot seem to get off the field until the opposing team is able to move into FG range. There are too many receivers running wide open in the secondary and chunk yards being given up on the ground. Now the pass rush seems to be losing some steam lately. The losses of Cam and Minkah for long stretches and our inside backers for the year no doubt hurt, but still...

Very weird, because without this defense, there is no way the Steelers have a winning record.

we are ranked like 23rd in yards allowed but in the top 10 in points, turnovers and RZ defense. Truly a bend dont break defense this year.

and while our O has been horrible in the first half we have more than enough evidence that this D isn’t making plays because they are tired. Its communication issues, PI’s and just bad defense at times.

Injuries haven't helped, but all in all, D has still underperformed

I am encouraged by the promise shown by Porter and Benton, though
Roberts looked great last week; hope he can keep it up -- I'm concerned that the better passing offenses will really carve us up

                      ???

27th in points allowed is the definition of a breaking defense

I meant to say yardage not points allowed.

we are 7th in points allowed but mid 20’s in yardage.

I think we have pieces; but we definitely need to add more. Especially on the Dline and linebacker groups.

If we could get a guy who could play man defense on the other side of Porter, we may have something really going.
