    Weirdness

I don't ever remember seeing a passing chart like Pickett's yesterday. Are the coaches trying to hide something?

What looks different? They never attack the middle because they're hiding from turnovers.

Dorin Dickerson thinks the game is too fast for Pickett and he's not seeing the MOF. Need to see some route charts overlaid above to see where he didn't throw.

Thanks for posting this because it was driving me crazy yesterday but I thought maybe it was just me thinking it was all sideline passes. Also maybe throw the ball to Pickens some more and less to Johnson, what the hell is the deal with Johnson being targeted constantly?? I like him but he's not exactly reliable or consistent at this stage in his career, he dropped a pretty big pass yesterday.

Why is Kenny not throwing over the middle? I've been wondering this. Could it be he has trouble seeing over the line? He has trouble stepping up in the pocket. Do teams collapse the center , knowing Kenny's weakness. All I know about QB play is by observation. Kenny can't throw over the middle. Is he ever going to overcome this. I wonder if these targeting charts were better when Muth was playing?

How was Kenny at Pitt. Did he target certain receivers all the time? That Addison kid is a good receiver. He targets DJ a lot. DJ can get open but he can't catch. Does Kenny throw to an open guy as opposed to anticipating the route. I don't know perhaps some talented observers can make objective comments.

The Browns have trouble in their defensive backfield now with injuries. We can attack them with the pass but can Kenny do it. The Bengals have some D-line injuries and can't stop the run. We can pound the Bengals. I believe we have a good chance of winning the next two games. When is Muth coming back.

This has been the MO of our offense going back before Pickett
I can only assume this is the way our team leadership wants it to be -- play it ultra safe, avoid turnovers at almost any cost
it has worked this season, at least in games where we can keep it close

I had to miss yesterday because of a wedding.. were the passes roll outs? Those kind of force you to pick a side to throw to rather than throwing back against the grain.

Kaboly pretty much espoused this same thing on the Fan Morning Show today -- they avoid it because that's where TO's happen more, definitely a directive from Tomlin.

Like I've been saying, the #1 goal for this offense is to not commit turnovers. Scoring points is an afterthought. What they don't realize is that the simplicity and predictability of it means that almost every pass will be contested. Kenny isn't throwing INTs but it's not for lack of effort, he's had several dropped over the last few games.

Where are they going to go when those eventually are caught? Wildcat and zero passing?

almost threw an INT on roll out to the right.

We didn’t throw over the middle until the end of the game and unfortunately it was called back.

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

We can't keep living in our fears about throwing over the middle. Pickett has to get better. Period. But avoiding something it not the answer. Something like Pickett running slants over the middle should be e a bread-and-butter staple in our offense. Maybe when Muth returns, he'll get featured over the middle. He's been successful over the middle of the field catching with Pickett. But regardless, the middle of the field needs to be attacked. It keeps defenses honest if nothing else.

I think a big part of this is the Center play. The pcket is beling collapsed and KP8 can't step up consistently. We need a franchise Center.

Imagine running a scheme so simple that DBs are blanketing receivers everywhere, and a QB that has had the no turnover directive hammered into his head 24x7. Of course the passing game is going to stink.
