Every year we hear the OL and ILB are fixed

Every year it doesn't show up until we play a bad team. The OL got housed on Sunday and the ILBs missed tackles and got whipped in coverage.

This team is spinning its wheels in the mud of mediocrity. There's no franchise QB cap hit anymore, and we still sign middling castoffs to patch over holes.

At least we traded up for a tackle, maybe it would be a good time to play him.

    Yep.

But to be fair, seems like both those groups require some time to gel.

Need to get better quick though with a real important game this week.

Gel? They inserted a new veteran LG who was supposed to be a huge upgrade. Literally the only change.

I was never very high on Cole and Daniels, who graded very similar to the Trai Turner everyone ran out of town, and the starting tackles are below the line.

I just think they're not very good still. Put in Jones and rotate Washington to the left or right depending on D alignment.

As far a ILB goes, I tried to call out the folly of the arguments that Roberts would only be used on running downs. Every down is a passing down in the NFL.

This year we have several new players. The OL and ILB's have been upgraded.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

That's fair Windy. I think I went more to the talking point than the truth there because we ended the game with the tackle switch. But the game had been decided quarters before that...

I think Cole is and upgraded over Green. Bigtime. Anyone would be! We over paid for Dainels. And he is just okay. That is on Colbert, not Khan.

Since Khan has been here he has been addressing the problems with simultaneously trading away our garbage for draft picks that either would not be starting or cut!

No one knows if the positions are fixed until the games are played. The Steelers signed some players who they believed could help the team. It's been one game. Let's see how it all plays out.

Because Rooney and Tomlin value quantity over quality. Instead of bringing in 1 impact player, we'll always choose to bring in 3 reclamation projects because of 'depth'....

It was one game against the best team in the NFC...

(Yes, I know the iggles went to the dance - Purdy was hurt)

Don't overreact (yet). I'd still say this Steelers team is a slightly above .500 team.

For a supposedly weak OL there's a surprising stat the Steelers are tops in the league on; fewest holding penalties (2 on the season). Last year after Wk 5 they stacked up 9 holding calls. Pretty big turnaround.

There's marked improvement on both units that this thread called out.

I don't think anyone though either unit was "fixed", but they're certainly better.

For the better part of 2 decades, we were spoiled...

When you go from Farrior/Foote to Farrior/Timmons to Timmons/Shazier to Shazier/VW, you have had a REALLY good run.

Same is true on the o-line when you go from the Faneca/Marvel Smith/Max Starks crew to the DeCastro/Pouncey/Ramon Foster crew.

Try to keep up?Offensive Lines are an issue across the league. It?s not our problem alone.

I think we took a major step forward at ILB this off season. Guys like Shazier are very hard to replace because they are rare talents

They are hard to replace; but at the same time, when was the last time we attempted to take a linebacker talent like that? To get a talented linebacker like that, we have to use a first or second round pick to get one.

Maybe you are forgetting the last time they grabbed in Rd 1? You get burned like that, it's gonna sting for a while.
