What I"m afraid we are going to see across the league is bad football from the majority of the teams because no one really played in the preason. Like last year. By and large, last year it took a couple of weeks before NFL football looked like NFL football. I suspect the same will happen again this year. Last night's game looked like teams who needed to play some preseason games to get their timing and rhythm .Between winning and losing, evidenced by last night's season ice-breaker.
There's a wide line between PFF and passer rating, however.
Passer rating: "Mahomes threw a pick six! LOLZ!"

I don't think teams hope for mistakes to win games. The team that generally makes the most mistakes in execution probably loses the game the majority of the time.Comment

Again the straw man defense of pff. You highlight the part WE ALL AGREE they do right.Between winning and losing, evidenced by last night's season ice-breaker.

You do not actually take on the specific parts that people take issue with because THOSE POINTS are unassailable. When those are bought up we get crickets bro.
You wait until the next time a pass bounces off a receivers hands to state the obvious.sigpic
In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

well they don’t have Hill anymore and Kelce wasn’t available. I remind you this KC team lost to the Colts last year. They aren’t invincible but they are damn good.
but the best way to beat them is to control TOP. Also had Mahomes doing a lot of scrambling last night.Steelers 27

sure they do. Its why teams game plan.
Using the wrong hope does not mean a team plays video games all week and “hopes” the other team gives the game away. Simply means a team “hopes” there game plan forced the other team to have mistakes which usually leads to a W if
you capitalize on them.
What team hopes the other team executes to perfection?Steelers 27

You know how they DONT LOSE? They NEVER EVER lose in a shootout. I have brought facts and figures before to prove that.
We are creating a team DESIGNED TO force mistakes on high powered offenses. Built right, this is not happenstance.
Ravens, Bucs, Patriots, Steelers, Seahawks, Broncos all defeated elite offenses by ENGINEERING mistakes.
Tomlin has been a part of not one but TWO of those teams that won the SB beating offensive juggernauts that way.
You CANNOT BEAT MAHOMMES by BEING Mahommes.
A GREAT DEFENSE CAN force ANY offense to play poorly.
Before you suggest it has not happened recently, I would suggest teams foolishly are pretty much ALL trying to beat KC at its own game.
Burrow and Brady HAVE beat Mahommes in the post season. Notice EVEN THOSE WINS were more about limiting KC than outgunning them.Last edited by Captain Lemming; 09-08-2023, 12:36 PM.sigpic

I don't know if 32 minutes to 28 minutes is dominating enough to say that TOP made the difference. The pick 6 was brutal. Kelce was the difference imo. My guess is that at least 2, possibly 3 of the Toney drops are Kelce targets if he's in the game.

I would have to say that the Chiefs play this "style" overall every game. What they don't do every game is drop 4 easy catches and one turning into a pick 6. The Chiefs looked like the Chiefs but were undone by mistakes, sh!t happens.

You have a chance to beat KC when you have a pass rush without blitzing. DET was all over Mahomes and that is with KC blatantly cheating on nearly every offensive snap. Lewan was literally line up in the backfield to block Hutchinson and it was never called the whole game. He was also false starting on half his snaps. It's the only way he was going to keep Hutch from stomping all over Mahomes. If that doesn't get attention from the league this week then it signals their bias with KC.Comment

Exactly. Exactly.Comment

Lions deserve credit. They got pressure and made plays. Also ran the ball downhill when KC knew it on that game winning TD drive.Steelers 27

The notion that some recipe was discovered to beat KC is a foolish one. TOP does little against them, as many teams have discovered including the Eagles in the last SB. They had 6 or 7 dropped catches, and one WR handed a gift pick 6. There's no in-depth analysis required.Comment

yep, announcers even talked about it at halftime and still let them get away with it.You have a chance to beat KC when you have a pass rush without blitzing.
