With allowances for keeping home grown guys that end up being elite (unless they are WRs...because WRs are too expensive to afford when you have a high value QB IMO).

I would worry about bringing in outside UFAs on huge deals though. My sense is that they usually underperform expectations when they come to new systems
Except for free agent SECONDARY players who are key cogs continue to be elite and who help teams win rings FREQUENLY.

    Ramsey
    Honey Badger
    Gilmore
    Revis
    C. Woodson
    D. Sharper
    A Talib
    R Woodson
    D. Sanders Niners
    D Sanders Cowboys

Those are just the All Pro caliber ones who changed teams.

Do the same with backs through the same period? You got Lynch and Faulk.

I have said this FOR YEARS. Elite secondary players are more associated with championships than any position save for QB.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

I bet if one was so inclined they could make such a list for virtually ANY position.

        - On D, invest in elite pass rushers and corners, average everywhere else

Of course, if you can get those elite CB and EDGE on rookie deals, money can go elsewhere. Point is, you have to judiciously spend and draft well.

I like that plan. But you e been pretty consistent complaining about our iLBs.

I don?t think they?re anything to write home about either. But you can?t draft every defensive position high in the draft. No matter how hard tomlin tries

It?s an area you can find gems in the later rounds. Need proper coaching too

Don't need elite, we've had terrible lately. Give me average.
