Why do Yinzers constantly complain that the Steelers aren't rated higher/more special? There are 31 other teams. I am so sick of the whining about us not being rated high enough on virtually every rating there is. It's embarrassing. Now this author equates it to being "hated" by everyone. Pathetic.

From your knowledge of old times( ie. 80's), I'm assuming that you're probably 55+. Are you from the Pittsburgh area? You know Yinz is just a local substitute for you'll . So what do you have against Pittsburgh?https://fanrecap.com/its-official-ma...urgh-steelers/

Look , yinz goes along with dontan(downtown), ott the has(out the house) etc. and other colloquialisms that are common to western PA. I was born in Central PA and we said youins for you all. It might have something to do with the PA Dutch linguistics, I don't know.https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Yinzer

My roommate at Slippery Rock was from the North side and he said Yinz. This was in the 70's. Your reference is from a derivative interpretation. Yinz was a language colloquialism before it referred to Steelers supporters.
I am sure there are other old timers that can add info. I might have to agree with Dizz in that you are a younger person, perhaps whose daddy was a Yinzer.Comment

hmm... is this true? Being from the 'Burgh I always thought "yinz" was a corrupted version of 'you guys'....Comment

Its an umbrella term. I think its actually a shortened way of saying “you and..”
but it applies to all of these and many more..
you all
y’all
you guys
you and everybody with you
you two
you and your people
you and them too
you and all your friends
you and your enemy
