I'm starting to sense an overall team improvement this year, by comments such as those by Connor, speaking about a sharpness this year. At the risk of sounding like a Yinzer, there seems to be a different aura going on this year. Less sloppiness, as Pickett complained about last year. Maybe the subtraction of Colbert and addition of Khan and Weidl has done something. Maybe Rooney put a subtle boot up Tomlin's @ss. Whatever the cause, I'm sensing a new and improved team. I could be all wrong, but it's what I am sensing so far.

It's the collective comments I'm hearing, not the run-of-the-mill rah, rah stuff. Everyone keeps mentioning how the entire team just seems sharper, less aloof, like they know what they're doing. Maybe it's the collection of those who used to be rookies last year stepping up. I also think Tomlin has "woke up." Instead of the "business as usual" it's like an awakening. When your 6th-round pick from last year is feeling it....Comment

I think its much easier to “focus” when reporters aren’t constantly trying to imply Canada was going to get fired and there was a “QB controversy” with Mitch and the drafting of Kenny.
Last year there was uncertainty at the most important position.
This year we have an established #1 QB entering camp.Steelers 27

Yes, that's a good point; having your most-important position ironed out prior to camps sure can't hurt focus. PLUS, your said leader is no longer a rookie, big plus.I think its much easier to “focus” when reporters aren’t constantly trying to imply Canada was going to get fired and there was a “QB controversy” with Mitch and the drafting of Kenny.

Agreed. There were seemingly so many questions all around.
In addition to the QB battle, Tuitt retired (in a weird way) and the Haskins accident. Those two things would have emotions running high and leave it difficult to focus.
Throw in questions on the o-line, the CB, the SS -- and there was simply too much activity last offseason.2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment

and some folks were saying Kenny’s first camp as a starter wasn’t that important for some odd reason.Agreed. There were seemingly so many questions all around.

I think entering camp as the #1 QB is a HUGE difference for QB development. Of course some pointed to Purdy but SF had a lot less moving parts than we did after moving on from Ben.
Losing an 18 year QB and having a brand new QB who wasn’t on the team and only had 8 snaps the prior season? Of course the team is going to appear a bit chaotic.
But I still think the biggest difference is the local media isn’t trying to stir the pot with a QB controversy and trying to force the FO and players to blame Canada for everything on offense.
oh, and removing Claypool and Bush also helped big time. Both those dudes couldn’t be trusted around a mic or on social media.Steelers 27

Purdy also had the advantage of having guys around that had been in the system. Ben retired and wasn't on the sideline. You had MT who was new to the system and MR who was unhappy and didn't seem to be much of a team player. Meanwhile, Garrapalo was there to offer insight for Purdy.and some folks were saying Kenny?s first camp as a starter wasn?t that important for some odd reason.

I would guess that KP would have developed faster had he had say Dobbs around, who knew the system inside and out -- SO MUCH SO that Ben relied on him.
I'm still kinda bummed that the team didn't go after him instead of MR THIS year - the extra salary would have been worth the additional knowledge and growth for KP2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment

maybe there's a "i'm your coach, not your friend" new type of vibe this year mandated by khan and weidl.

Appears to me that someone is hedging their bets. Prefers gloom and doom with never ending complaints, but when they have a good season wants to claim they knew it and how smart they are
pick a side and stay there"My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

its the second year without Ben and some are definitely hedging already just based off the draft.. lol.Steelers 27
