Colbert passed on Humphrey's to nab Green in the third ; So passing on Humphries with the thought of getting Green in the third to do the job was one of the biggest bust (blunders) of Colberts tenure. Yeah Burns and Jones are up there as well. But this plan of his with Green , bypassing Humphries is right up there and on par as well.

+1I don’t think 3rd round and biggest bust work well together.
He missed on Green but it wasn’t like we moved up to grab him on the first like with Bush.
I still think Burns or Jones was his biggest bust. I would put Bush up there but he had such a good rookie season before his injury its hard not to see that as the reason he flamed out.
And it always surprises me when I'm reminded we picked him in the 3rd. I always think it was the 4th.Comment

And Colbert acted all cantankerous when asked about drafting him, like "how dare you question my decision of waiting and taking Green in the 3rd, he's like the best center prospect in this draft."Comment

I have no problem with them choosing Freiermuth in the 2nd instead of a C who doesn't fit their prototype at C just to make everyone on a message board happy.Colbert passed on Humphrey's to nab Green in the third ; So passing on Humphries with the thought of getting Green in the third to do the job was one of the biggest bust (blunders) of Colberts tenure. I know everyone wanted Creed, but it was akin to wanting a traditional DE and plugging him in.. it might work because the guy is talented.
But they have traditionally focused more on agility and ability to get to the 2nd level than anything else... it never made sense to me - still doesn't all these years later that people are still upset about it.
At this point, I'm more disappointed in the Loudermilk move from that draft than anything else. Not necessarily the selection, but giving up a 4th rounder for the next season could have gone a way toward improving OLine/DLine/ILB2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment

Creed falling to us in the 2nd seemed like the draft breaking just right for us. And TE seemed like a luxury. And we didn't go into the draft with a plan for C other than "hope we can draft a day 1 starter". Which is pretty atypical for us.
But the great news is that PF is a good player.
And while the KG experiment didn't seem to work, I think Cole was good for us last season. Not the elite C play we've been spoiled with over time, but solid.Comment

Green is going to have to beat out our 7th round draft pick from Maryland and Ryan McCollom for the backup center job.
I personally have no desire to ever watch him play center again.Comment

Except it didn't... A great player who doesn't fit your scheme isn't "breaking right for us"...
I agree - the selection of PF surprised me... glad he worked out. On my end, I wanted Nick Bolton (who is a star ILB for the Chiefs - #@%&#! got all of our picks)And TE seemed like a luxury. For all the love Creed got around these parts, I just never understood it due to lack of fit vs what the team likes out of their C. I had no doubt that he was good. But there was a reason they were excited on Green (who we'd all agree was a miss) and it was that quickness/agility and a
To me, their excitement further highlighted why Creed wouldn't have been selected by the team. Yet those who wanted him continue to double- and triple-down... and they use his success in an entirely different system as proof - which isn't always an accurate assessment...2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment

When a guy is dominant, you find a place for him and tailor things to his strengths. Humphries has been dominant. Dominant to the point that he got a Super Bowl ring.
But you have a point; Tomlin might not be that bright to tailor line play to his strengths. Good point.Comment
