I don't think Mason is better than KP. And MR was in the league for a bit before he put those stats up (although he didn't have as many reps in college). But this is not an encouraging set of stats.

Kind of eye opening isn't it?

I think that it just shows we need to pump the brakes a bit on KP until we see more and see steady improvement

MR never deserved the acrimony he received from the day he ws drafted

7 wins, 1 loss after the bye and only threw 1 INT in those last 8 games.

I expect more growth and success this year with a full camp and playbook that plays to his strengths.

Most concerned with his passing against divisional opponents. He only played each AFCN opponent once, and he struggled with his completion %. Now that they have tape it won't get easier. He's still got a lot to prove before he can be crowned.

              Confirmed

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Wednesday they had re-signed veteran quarterback Mason Rudolph.

No one is giving KP the same hate MR got, but it is just prudent to take a wait and see attitude. KP has me moving in his direction but just need to see it continue.

FWIW, it's possible now that they cut Mitch and used that money to resign Highsmith...

I actually hope they do cut Mitch and keep Mason. I always thought more highly of Mason than the rest of board. Mitch is a former No. 1 and has a decent resume, but I don't think he is actually better than Mason right now. I don't think it makes sense to have both of them.

and the thing of it is, if you have to go to either of them for an extended period of time, the season is doomed - lol

I agree, and MR was better when he played. Compare his stats the KP. But KP was a rookie. He better show big improvement from year one to year two.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

Surely you don't think Jordan Love this season would have zero progress from sitting on the bench for 3 seasons, right?

That KP is roughly even (with ONE camp where he came in as 3rd string) speaks volumes of his achievements this past season.
Yinz have been quick to point out KP's handicapped rookie season. Meanwhile Rudolph was shuffled like a old sock left in a drawer.

                          .......

Rudolph has started 10 games in four years and has a 5-4-1 record. Eight starts came during his second season in 2019, after Ben Roethlisberger suffered a season-ending elbow injury in Week 2.

Rudolph didn?t necessarily rip it up, but there was a pretty good excuse. The Steelers decided they didn?t need to replace quarterbacks coach Randy Fichtner when he was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2018, Rudolph?s rookie season.

At the time, Joshua Dobbs was slotted into the backup role, thus nearly eliminating any in-season reps for Rudolph as the No. 3 quarterback. He was relegated to post-practice virtual-reality reps inside the team?s video room.

Rudolph hasn?t started since a Week 10 game in 2021 against the Lions. Even then, he found out less than 24 hours before the game that Roethlisberger was going to be out of the lineup. The Steelers tied the winless Lions.

Rudolph has thrown only 121 passes since getting benched in the second half of a game against the Bengals in 2019.
Rudolph throws a very catchable long ball. If this improved line can pass pro I think Rudolph could win a few games as #2 but he won't get that chance until next season.

I don't think that MR was brought back to be the number 2. Everyone saw that there is no demand for him, and this is a place that feels comfortable enough with him. I'm guessing the best he was told was that he can compete for the backup role. Only other possibility I would think would be if someone came up with a big offer for Mitch (second or higher) which I seriously doubt.

He was a backup and was treated as such.

I was one of Mason’s biggest defenders. Still not sure how he got so much blame for the Detroit tie when DJ and Muth fumbled in Fag range.
