    Free Kenny

Steelers have added some nice pieces to allow them to field multiple formations from which they can run AND pass. Blocking WR in ARob and road grader TE in Washington.

This won't be maximized, however, unless they let Kenny audible and check out of plays. You can always throw bodies at the run game to neutralize it, it's foolhardy (but also fist pumpy) to run into the teeth of that. Conversely, if they back off, perfect time to run. Some guy with 7 Super Bowl rings became the GOAT by simply hitting them where they ain't by perfecting his pre-snap reads and not getting greedy.

That should be the offensive identity - you drafted a smart, gym rat at QB - let him read the D and steal free yards and points all game.

Kenny already has the ability to check
out of plays. It was silly to think his hands were tied because he didn’t have the freedom Ben had 18 years into his career.

Ben had success early on but he did not have the ability to call plays presnap like Muth mentioned.

This!!! Its a stupid narrative that the coaches were somehow keeping KP from achieving his true greatness. KP was the one who threw more INTs than TDs...the coaches weren't teaching him that. They were just managing the process to provide the team with the best chance for a "W" each week

KP need to EARN the freedom to do more with increasingly better performances. We started seeing that as the season progresed last year and I'm sure we'll see more this season.

The biggest problem I saw last year was the lack of hot-routes when you can see the blitz is coming. He got pressured a few times too quickly and you knew it was coming, but he had nowhere to go with the ball....

Daniels said Kenny had the freedom to audible. Of course this doesn’t mean he has the freedom to draw plays in the dirt or on the flu like Ben later in his career.

Folks ran with what Muth said but people failed to realize Muth worked with Ben in his 16th year. Ask Hines how much freedom Ben had his rookie year. Hell, Ben admitted if he threw an INT with Whiz and Cowher those first few years it was run run run for the rest of the day (hyperbole of course).

yeah, question is did Kenny see the blitz coming? He will get better as he gets more experience.

KP needs to show the ability to read the defenses and ultimately execute before he can be freed. Experience is a huge factor. I don't expect KP to reach his understanding and potential until year 3 or 4.

                It takes experience an time.

                  its already starting, isn’t it.
same folks that always blamed the qb in the past. Something you predicting would happen

coaches we’re the ones that chose not to give KP first team reps until after the jets game.
Start 2-6 because of it and still try to play the season like they had a chance at success. Instead focusing on the development of a rookie qb.

It's difficult to blame one person in a team sport. But when the franchise QB has more power over games, generally makes more money than any other player, receives more praise/accolades for team success, ect ect ect. Who made it this way in regard to the QB position and football?

KP isn't an established franchise QB at this point. He is still developing. So this means that KP shouldn't be freed as suggested.

While some will say Muth was covering for Canada I think Muth saying “you would give DJ a nod and it would be a 12 yard completion” kknda confirms he meant Ben had total control of his hots while Kenny was in rookie mode.

Do you think it's weird that the people who thought that QB is head and shoulders the most important person on the team, still believe that?

For the record, I think us not making the playoffs last year is on the defense (and probably starting Mitch for too long). They were the strong side of the ball last season. And we just needed to eek out one more win. I think we'll probably need them to carry us to multiple wins again this year. Buy time for the QB to develop.

But Windy is saying that we shouldn't build up the rest of the team. Just throw KP to the wolves. Lean into the things he wasn't good at last year.

I think we're probably all old enough to remember Ben and Brady not getting credit when they were winning their first Superbowls because they were "game managers" hiding behind great defenses and good running games. Both of those guys turned out to be among the best QBs of all time.

It's still a good process IMO.

I don't want to go the Cincy route, where they were tempting fate with their QB's health early by having him pass all the time behind a bad line (and lost six games with a big injury because of it).

And KP isn't what Burrow was coming out of college.

I don't understand why people don't want to give him time to develop.

Listening to Ramon and Pouncey talking about playing with Ben on Foster's show was interesting.

Supports the claims that Ben would basically just make **** up in the huddle at least sometimes.

My guess is that Pickett was permitted to check out of things, but to a limited number of other things.

Ben earned the right to just make **** up as he went along.

I agree the coaches threw Kenny into the fire without reps which was a mistake but I think Tomlin saw the season AND team slipping away in front of him with Mitch.

Tossed him in cold and I’m sure the plan was to play Kenny after the bye.. if at all, his rookie year.

Its not that big of a deal IMO even though I wanted Kenny day 1. Its still early in his career and lets be honest, most teams weren’t favored to win road games vs Buffalo, Philly and Miami at that point in the season.

Kenny is seasoned now, should have a better start this year.
