Because of Edmonds, I am convinced Porter ain't the pick

It seems the rwason why Edmonds is gone is found in Tomlin essentially praising Kazee for his "ball production". Tomlin also spoke of Petersens versatility and hinted HE might play some safety.

I think we are prioritizing people who create turnovers throughout the secondary.

That mean we WONT TAKE Joey Porter, even if he is there. And I LIKE Porter.

I have defended his lack of interceptions because of so few opportunities because he doesn't get tested. You cant pick a pass if your coverage is SO GOOD they avoid you.

Nevertheless, he is not PROVEN he can turn it over routinely.

I think if Porter is the last of the top 3 corners we will shock the world and pass. We WILL go elsewhere.

Skinny rail Forbes is starting to look mighty good at 32. If he is there he is the guy. Credit to Dizz who would have called it first.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Yup. And I DID NOT WANT him or any safety. But here is the deal. HIS versatility allows him to play nickel corner as well as safety. Two birds with one versatile playmaker.

We are also pursuing "smart". This is why we immediately signed PP when we lost Sutton. Edmonds is "athletic" but nobody praises his smarts.

Branch has smarts like Minkah at safety. Smarts like Sutton as nickel. And dude brings the Blitz skills we lost with Hilton. That is a WHOLE LOT of value.

I am on record as HATING the idea of safety in the first, did not want Branch, but I absolutely think you are right and salivating over BRANCH is what made Edmonds expendable.

It's funny that you posted this, I was just revising my "DeVille Does..." mock to include him... and having another Alabama guy alongside Minkah, he'll have a really good mentor next to him to show him what NFL work ethic *should* be.

If he's half as smart as they say he is, they'd be the best safety tandem in the league by the end of the 23-24 season.

You do know that with all this mutual agreement they will start saying we are the same person right?

Depending on who is there, I think we take him.
a Steeler coach was working with him at PSU PRO day.

but if any of the top 3 LTs are there. I hope we take them instead and get corner at 32

preventing a big play is about as good as getting a turnover

I was looking at it differently. Yes, Kazee has more int production, but I was thinking more of a coverage guy than an in the box safety. They covered the idea of thumper with two LB signings, and prioritizing pass coverage by the DBs. Otherwise, I think it made no sense to pick up two ILBs who are more known as hitters vs. passing game, while your only other ILB is also known as a thumper.

My point being, if the team believes (as has been argued) that Porter doesn't have picks because the QB avoids him, then that would work. IMO Porter is the #3 CB, but I'd be comfortable taking him if other options ahead of him are off the board.

I don’t even remember edmunds breaking up passes.

so even if Porter doesn’t get ints ( to be determined) at least he’s not allowing completions.
edmunds seemed to be just close enough to tackle the receiver after the completion.
                    lebeua’s dream player. Lolol

probably why people think he was “ good here”

I been on the Branch bandwagon sine the season ended, but my thinking was that we re-sign Edmunds and have play as a hybrid-Safety-ILB ( he would be our lone "ILB" in 3 safety set with MInkah, Kazee, and Branch)

Three other players that I love to have at either 17 or 32, not in any order:

N.Smith ( as ILB not outside),
                      Breese,
                      Schmitz ( C),
                      Washington TE,
and the OSU Buckey WR ( drawing a blank right now)

I really think that there is going to be a run on CB and OT, and we will miss out, taking a better valued played instead at 17 and 32.

That was my own opinion as well. But, I think we'll get one of the second tier OT at 32. And at 49, I think they'll go d-line because the CB left on the board just aren't more impactful than a solid NT can be at that point.

You were talking Jaxson Smith-Njigba at WR. I'd throw Addison in the mix at 17 as well, he and KP seemed to have a good rapport. Knowing that DJ, Pickens and Calvin Austin are all under contract for the next 2 seasons, I can't say that it's the biggest need, but it also wouldn't shock me - that all depends on what they saw out of Austin in camp.

I think you are disregarding what is, to those who are running this team, perhaps the most important consideration --
