Maybe Ben, Mason vs the winless Lions, Trubisky and Kenny were all the issue but Canada seems to be the common denominator.

    Another AS masterpiece.

I don't think Canada is capable of running a decent NFL offense. I think Tomlin likes the approach of keeping the offense simple & low-scoring, with a low risk of turning the ball over. I think Rooney likes paying out very little for his assistant coaching staff, sure doesn't want to keep paying a guy who's no longer coaching here.

I think it's the perfect marriage to bring us another year of painful to watch, below-average offense.
No. The opinion is KP was not good at intermediate routes. And not good in the RZ.
Everyone (OC, QB, HC) needs to get better or this offense is just average. KP says he wants full control next season. Let's see if they give it to him and what he does with it.

A lot of revisionist history going on with this. I knew what Mitch was, but a lot of people were touting him as the ideal guy to run this system.
ben was holding back mikey from being on the level of vince lombardi, obviously

          Yep

Both/and is usually a better answer than either/or

At best he's average. Pickett needs to prove, check that should have proved he is capable of passing for more yardage and completing the type to throws that require a velocity. All proved is that he is capable of winning games IF the defense is on the + side of turn overs AND he has good support is the running game. When he gets this two things he is capable if beating that bad teams. Most QB's are. If he has to throw it over 30 times he is 1-3 and the game he won the defense produced THREE turnovers. He has not beaten a good team that is not playing a back up QB. Zero times in 12 starts. What does that tell you?

I fear we are stuck with a Kordell Stewart type of player at quarterback ( remember him ) one that the Steelers hoped would improve but was holding a then very good team back. You can hope, and just like back then there are certain fans minds you can't change. Our reality is Pickett is stuck with a dope at head coach, one who the top OC candidates DO NOT want to work for. So he hires a guy like Canada.

The good news is Pickett is a cheap player on the salary cap. The bad new is the team will likely stick with him for 1-2 years before giving another QB a chance. This is why I am for spending a mid round pick on a quarterback, the let him wait and learn until Pickett's get hurts which to his alarming lack of durably in the NFL will happen some time next year. When this happens the new QB will have a chance to show his stuff. I don't every want to see Trubisky play QB again for the Steelers.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

The Steelers were 7-1 in games where they were first to score. This is something that didn't happen very often in 2021.

I agree that Ben was spent, and the offense he ran was his, and the whole point was to get rid of the ball before getting hit.

I think Trubisky was given a bit more leeway, but every time he had time to go through his progressions, he seemed to choose the safe, short pass. Other plays where he got the ball off quickly, also seemed to be the short option i.e. I remember often he would bootleg out to the right with two receivers coming across - one at short depth, one at medium depth. He almost always took the short man.

KP looked like it was short and safe by design, yet he still did take the occasional shot deeper down field. I think everything, even his occasional aggression, was controlled by the conservative system.

I think that the next step is to bring the team in this spring and attempt to slowly open things up. Kenny is a study and film guy so he is probably home reading the expanded playbook every day. This is going to be year 2 of Canada putting in his offense (2021 with Ben a wasted year) and I have no idea if it will work, but I'm pretty sure it won't look like last year.

Not if you believe that Ben, and not Canada, was running the O in 2021.

No offense, but the exact same things were said last year at this time.

How many points did the Steelers score the last two years when it was panic time and they got away from the plan? That would be an interesting study.
