Qyick thoughts offseason 22-23

1) I enjoyed last year, as frustrating as it was. I am not really happy Canada is back, but makes sense. Need to keep grooming Kenny in a system, not mess him up like Kordell with multiple OC. But agree with Dulac, we need to hire an Offensive assistant coach, like how we hired Flores as defensive assistant coach, as a back plan if we decide to fire Canada in 23 and help groom Canada to NFL level.

2) I want us to follow the Bengles' blue print and get ridiculous talent in the skill position.
Add Addison and Meyer with the 1st 2 picks.
Add to the D via FA ( 1 splash ILB like Bill's Edmunds and an above average DE to compliment Heyward)

Must Resign our Edmunds, Sutton Kazee, and the D WILL be amazing.

About our D
I know we don't have a true #1 CB, but we have the best safety in the NFL and great talent depth.
And if you forgot, let me remind you how injured we were at DB, all these players missed multiple games... Kazee, Edmunds, Levi, Witherspoon, and Fitz.

Three safety sets was suppose to be the base and key aspect of the D, but got wiped out with Kazee early injury.
I actually believe our Edmunds was suppose to be the hybrid ILB-Safety, just like Barron was next to Bush and Vance.
So no true need for true 2 ILB, just 1 stud there. ( we did play often with 1 ILB last year, unfortunately it was Spilein)

Add Kazee in the fold, allowed Fitz to do his thing.

Add depth via draft or FA for DL/OLB.

What about our OL?
Hell yeah it needs help, but just look at last year. We added a new OL coach, and just 2 pieces, that were price friendly, in Cole and Daniels. The OL looked night and day from the 21-22 campaign.
Now what if we add 1 more piece via FA and depth in the draft ( with our original 2nd or 3rd round pick) I honestly do believe that we have enough flexibility on the OL ( Cole/Daniels can play both G and C, some analysis even suggest that Moore would excel at G. Chucks can play both RT and LT). So adding talent and meshing it in could make this OL actually above average.
bring in a RT=Chucks-Dotson/Moore-Cole/Daniels-RT
bring in a LT= LT-Dotson/Moore-Cole/Daniels-Chucks
bring in a C= Chucks-Cole-C-Daniels-Moore
bring in a G=; Chucks-G/Dotson-Cole/Daniels-G/Daniels-Moore

I think the weakest link on OL was Dotson, his erratic play caused Moore to play bad. Dotson in one drive can have a monster block, then 2 mental mistakes like holding and offsides.
No, I do not want to give up on him, but his time is ticking...

I also think, that Chucks should move back to LT and add a roadblocking RT or move Moore to RT. That was the plan back when we had Banner.
My ideal OL would be again upgrade the interior, and add competition to the tackle spots. Just like last year, I think 1 or 2 minor signing/draft can make a big impact. NO NEED TO GO CRAZY SPENDING AND TOP PICK IN DRAFT.

My idle OL> Chucks-Dotson/Cole-Rookie/FA-Daniels-Rookie/FA

* Dream scenerio Dotson takes a huge step forward
*Cole would be our top swingIOL
*Moore would be our swing OT or maybe moved to LG and add a swing OT

Some good thoughts, but kind of tough to read through, what with all the

&nbsp=&gt, etc.

I agree, we need to upgrade Dotson's spot. I think Moore might be better at G or RT ... I'd love to see us bring in an honest-to-goodness all-pro caliber LT to take Moore's place.

Interior of our defensive front 7 needs to be upgraded as well.

Damn Forum timed out while i was writing it and saving it.

I tried to fix it again, but might be too hard to read again, I am too lazy now to go check grammar and context.

I don't believe Chuks can play left tackle cause if he could they would have moved him there as he's better at pass pro then run blocking n he's got the qb's blind side on the left. Chuks to me is slightly above ave as a pass blocker n slightly below ave as a run blocker. Putting him in the average level as far as a starter. Not bad just not special.
In our zone blocking scheme we could really use a road grader at RT imho.

I agree that competition needs to be brought in for the Oline. Adding Depth is always a plus on the Oline. Not enough depth to go around the league.

Would be nice to keep some of the experienced players they have like Edmunds ect. Playing time and chemistry can sometimes make up for some weak spots in a unit.

Chucks was the starting LT when we had Banner. When they replaced Banner with Moore,in his rookie year, he could not make the flip to the right side. Played better on the left.
I am not sure why chose to keep him there at LT, maybe they didn't want to stunt his growth? Too many new players in the IOL, to make the switch in tackles?

Yeah, I wanted Pennington bad last year. ( although he didn't play much- injuries)

FWIW, I agree with most of this.

But, I'll be pretty upset if we take WRs with 2 of our top 3 picks. I think it's almost certain we'll take one (if it was still KC in charge, I'd say certain), but 2 is overkill when we already have 2 starters...and I'd personally rather wait until later in the draft to get a slot guy. Also hope Austin develops.

I think we have too many holes to go that heavy at WR.
