Hindsight: Did Dino Tomlin deserve scholarship to MD?

Well, we have an OC give Shades son, Dino, a full scholarship at MD, after which, Canada recieved the OC gig for the Steelers. Coincidence? Well, lets look at how Dino did while at MD, to determine if he was worthy of the full boat ride he recieved to MD. That should end the debate.

Check out Dino Tomlin's College Stats, School, Draft, Gamelog, Splits and More College Stats at Sports-Reference.com

3 receptions in 3 years. 3. In 3 years. I mean, if that's not deserving of a full ride, what is?

Now, he transferred to Boston U. for his 4th year, where he amassed an immense 10 receptions, so....7th round draft pick in Pgh, here we come.

As Durkin remained on administrative leave for much of the prime recruiting season, commitments were scarce. When three-star wide receiver Dino Tomlin chose the Terps (http://www.dbknews.com/2018/11/08/maryland-football-dino-tomlin-2019-recruiting-dj-durkin-trey-rucker/) in November, he became their first commitment in two months.

Did he “deserve” a scholarship? Probably not.. which is why he chose a school that was desperate for recruits after the previous turmoil at Maryland.

but it also looks like he sat out the 2020 covid year.

who did we hire from Boston College since he actually played

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

      TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

I told you before my serious answer. You think Tomlin would hire a guy he KNEW was unqualified, stake his career legacy on it, as a favor because he signed his kid?

NOBODY IS THAT SELFLESSLY LOYAL because someone did them a silly favor.

If Canada continues as a fail it will be because Tomlin wrongly had confidence in him.

Yes, I do. He knows he can control him and make him run exactly what he wants. Canada's a puppet, like Fichtner was.

What exactly is Tomlin staking here? He's Coach for Life and the media lavishes him with praise for the most mediocre of seasons.

            He's untouchable.

I don't suggest no relation to the recruiting of hos son.

Is it possible that in talking football to Canada he made an impression on Tomlin that made Mike want to bring him on?

              Absolutely possible.

Easy to see while Canada is showing his college schemes recruiting his kid Tomlin starts thinking that might translate to the NFL.

He starts talking to Canada more and before you know it the guy is QB coach, contributing to Fichners schemes.

There is a very logical way things could have progressed all the way to a bad hire.

But to think you OWE the man a job as a reciprocal favor is ridiculous.

Starts talking to Canada? Did you not know Canada was the OC at Pitt in 2016.

That Pitt team was pro style, large chunk plays and various formations with lots
                of pre-snap motion.

ranked 10th in scoring that year.

Tomlin and the FO had a front row seat. This is why the conspiracy is ridiculous.

Actually, we ALL missed the master plan by the brilliant Canada who's dream was to coach Kenny in the NFL.

Canada and Kenny conspired to make it happen. Canada recruited him not intending to coach him in college. He promised Kenny would play for the Steelers if he came to Pitt.

He said, "come to Pitt and showcase yourself to the Steelers, by the time you graduate, Ben will be ready to retire and I will be coaching there and I will be able to convince the team to draft you.

Canada recruited Kenny to Pittsburgh left immediately, to coach at Tomlins favorite school, recruited Tomlins kid, so he could feel indebted, Tomlin hire him as QB coach and he screws up Fichners offense JUST ENOUGH to get him fired.

All the while, Kenny holds back on his play and stays just long enough for Ben to retire.

As OC it is Canada who persuades Tomlin (who we just know could not have possibly chosen Kenny otherwise) to draft Kenny.

I think THAT is how it all went down.
