NFL changes to rules I would make if I were king.

NFL changes to rules I would make if I were king.

    1. No team with a losing record makes the playoffs including division winners! If a team wins the division and has a losing record , the NFL has only six playoff teams in that conference.

    2. Allow the number 0 the all none line man, and 00 for lineman. They are cool and some players would want to wear them.

    3. Move kickoffs back 5 yards. They used to be exciting plays! Now they are mostly boring touchbacks.

    4. Allow one player in motion per play on offense like Canada does for its football. This adds a new dimension to the game and creativity.

    5. Expand the amount of players that can dress pre game to 53 men.

    6. Make all trade offers public information 4 week later. Let the fans debate them.

    7. Expand the draft to 10 rounds. You'll still get plenty of rookie free agents.

    8. Speaking of the draft, put in an NFL lottery system. It's exciting. Like the NBA and NHL has.and makes the off season more interesting and limits tanking.

    9. Allow on side kicks to be advanced. They can't under present rules.

    10. Allow players to swat down field goals without touching the cross bars. It will add to the game. Rejected!

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

they dont want kickoff returns...."player safety"
losing records/no playoffs......loss of tv money
lottery....teams still tank to get more ping pong balls

NBA draft lottery feels rigged. It isn’t exciting IMO. Its suspect.

are we sure you can’t swat down FG’s?

I think division winners should make the playoffs but the seeding should go by record. An 8-9 team shouldn’t host a 12-5 team. That is ridiculous.

Its for long kick the just clear the bar. Players can jump up to swat them. They used to do this is the old days. Kansas City had a guy known for this. Now it's outlawed. Not a major rule change but on that can add excitement.

Film to pig pong ball being dropped. The draft lottery for teams that did not make the playoffs coming. What do you think of my other ideas? I may post them on pro football talk.

Change pass interference to 15 yards.

Start enforcing the "pass was not catchable" rule.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

I wouldn’t mind if they changed PI to 20 yards but spot fouls are game changers and some of the calls are awful.

I would like to see challenges to roughing the passer.

also get rid of taunting. Too subjective.

              How bout some real innovation?

Like playing with 2 balls simultaneously.

Either ball can score, be intercepted, etc.

Let’s not just block FGs with an NBA player at the crossbar. Let’s score multiple TDs. Or go for it and kick a FG at the same time on 4th and short.

Or really screw things up and kickoff one ball and onsides the other. If both teams recover 1 ball, you’d have to play O and D simultaneously.

              Possibilities are endless.

PI should be 10 yards and automatic 1st down, unless the defender is clearly beaten and commits the foul to prevent a TD, then its a spot foul (PI is subjective already, no reason not to add a little more to try and make it fair).

Get rid of legal holding and the Mel Blount rule

Get rid of the QB slide, if he runs, he's available to be tackled period

Get rid of instant replay, absolutely hate this

NFL isn't worried about player safety, they've added a 17th game, move the KO back at least 5 yards
(as a side note, if they keep the KO where it is currently, then kickers should be practicing kickoffs that are higher and land in the vicinity of the goal line and allow the cover team to try and pin the opponent deep, use it a as a weapon instead of just giving the ball back)

I would move the XP back to the 2 yard line so that the team can use the element of surprise when going for 2, you can leave the offense on the field or line up to kick and fake the kick or take the kick. I hate having to declare going for a 2 point conversion.

Roughing the passer rules have to be changed, its getting almost impossible to tackle a QB without a penalty, if you hit him chest to chest and on him, penalty, if you tackle him with your arm but he hits the ground too hard, penalty, scrape his face mask, penalty, tackle below the waist, penalty, tell me how do you tackle a QB?

I'm sure there are others but these come to mind quickly

Roughing the QB should be the highest one. Watching vet QB’s get flags for barely being touched while some rookies are being body slammed with no flags is blatant cheating.

Revert the rules of Quarterback protection back to the way they were before Brady (with the Patriots) had his season ended in the Kansas City game by a knee injury. They went off the board after that with the touching of the Quarterback/roughing the passer crap.

I'd like to see 2 pass interference penalties - one like the current for obvious fouls, and a 15 yarder for more inadvertent calls.

                              Rule I hate most…
offensive team at 10 yard line, personal foul penalty against defense, is a 15 yard penalty but bc it’s at the 10, they make it a “half the distance to the goal”… why???? Make it a 9 yd penalty put it at the 1… they do this with many penalties that reward the penalized team and it’s dumb…

touchback rule too which happened to the Steelers in Denver a few years ago and somewhere else that killed us too … guy runs 45 yards stretches out to score, fumbles through the end zone and the harshest penalty in all of sports happens, the opposing team gets the ball at the 20…. Meanwhile you fumble out of bounds anywhere else on the field you get it there
