That would be an absolute garbage move if that's the extent of them trying to upgrade the LT; that would mean they aren't even seriously trying, which is what the opinion of many were after doing NOTHING last offseason to upgrade the LT spot after Moore's below average rookie season. And this article said "Moore developed nicely" in 2022? How was that? He was still far below average. Last I checked, you were supposed to want more than that from your starters.Pretty much nailed our MO in free agency, these are the kinds of guys we go for.

You throw in a rookie QB and give him crap to protect his blind side? Way to go Steelers. A real genius plan. -

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

I think if we have a big offensive add in UFA it will be LG. I think Dotson is currently the weakest link and pushing him to depth is probably a good way forward.
I think Chuks will get the nod as a starter again (was he our best lineman again?) and we won't give up on Moore yet.
If we get a tackle, I bet it will be someone like this. Who maybe competes to start and at least gives us a back up tackle.
I wonder if anyone has ever looked at the success rate on big UFA signings. My guess is that it's not very good. And the problem with OL is that everyone is desperate for guys, so really good ones rarely become available until they're over the hill of they want insane money.Comment

Thanks, but no thanks.Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!
I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.Comment

Except for Trent Williams and a few others teams signed, and benefitted from immensely. Oh, but Pgh doesn't pay for top OTs, period.I think if we have a big offensive add in UFA it will be LG. I think Dotson is currently the weakest link and pushing him to depth is probably a good way forward.

I think that Dotson is more of a feast or famine player. One play he will easily dominate a guy, and on the next he will get called for a flag or let his man beat him like a drum. If the coaches think he can play more consistently, then I see them sticking with him through this year at least - last year of his rookie deal, $2.9M hit. On the other hand, I thought that Moore had an awful season, and both he and Chuks regressed as the year went on. Chuks can be cut as money saving consideration, but players like Moore and Green are strictly based on play.
I wasn't happy with Moore returning to start the most important position on the line this season, but at least there was the glimmer of hope that he did show improvement and was going into his second season. Maybe he could improve to average - which is what we saw at LT with AV for several years. Instead he regressed from below average to bad. I don't want to see average, I'd like to finally see LT set for the future with a good to great youngster who we don't have to worry about for awhile. I'm not saying it has to be Jonathan Ogden or Joe Thomas, but Marvel Smith, Max Starks would be a starting point. I just checked - one pro bowl between them yet they were both head and shoulders above what we are seeing now.Comment

I would also love to see us have a dominant OT. But it doesn't seem to be how we build our teams. Or at least we haven't often had the opportunity to draft a potentially dominant OT (except that one time where the owner reportedly forced the HC to draft a QB).I think that Dotson is more of a feast or famine player. I think this is a good way of looking at it. And like Harvin with punting, I think you want OL to be consistently good rather than boom or bust. These guys need to be at least OK on most plays. I would be OK getting a tackle. Especially if we think a potentially elite guy falls to us in UFA. But with lots of other needs, I think the team might look first to positions where we don't have starters under contract instead of ones where we can wait it out another year (again in the case of OL). We'll see.

I just don't think Dotson has it from the neck up. He can be kept for depth but I'm not sure he is a starter next year, depending on how the draft falls.Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!
