    Top Paid QBs

    Top four QBs are all sitting at home this weekend;

    A. Rodgers $50M+
    R. Wilson $48M+
    K. Murray $46M+
    D. Watson $46M

Hard to win when your paying a QB big bucks.

My gut says paying stupid-top-dollar money to a QB isn't going to get you rings.

Tom Brady has shown a good formula.

I think Lamar is being unreasonable and will cripple the rats if they give him what he wants. So, I hope they do.

Watson isn't yet hurting the Clowns. Imagine if his future cap numbers start making them worse?!!

Mahomes so far, is proving you can still win with a top dollar contract. But will it eventually hurt them?

      Just about as high:

      Mahomes
      Brady
      Dak
      Allen
      Cousins

All still playing, and soon to be on the highest paid list, and also still playing....

      Lawrence
      Herbert
      Burrow
      Jackson (if healthy)

The vast majority of teams still alive have franchise QBs.

No one can even bothering TRYING to dispute this.

Hopefully the Watson deal ends up being as bad as the Wilson one.

Watson’s cap hit is only $1 Mill this year. Next year it begins!!!

The wild thing is all 4 of these QB’s looked pretty terrible this year.

          Wilson looks cooked.
          Aaron looks old and uninterested.
Watson gets a pass because he barely played but its been almost 2 years. Can he get that old thing back? Hope not.

Murray is a head case. No idea what happens. They don’t even have a coach or GM. Sean Payton?

I think teams should be looking to add another franchise QB near the end of every rookie contract.

Build a great team and try to rotate QBs. It’s so much easier to pass in todays game than it’s ever been due to the rules.

His salary was $1M, but I think his cap hit was $10M (per OTC). Because they spread the signing bonus evenly over 5 years (about $9M / year)

I think cap hits for the season might be a be better bases for players pay.

It's more difficult to win games without a QB that's near the top of the league.

There’s a lot of QBs this week getting big bucks.
the secret is in structuring the contract

This is one of the times, I hope I'm wrong and consequently, Watson fails miserably

Thankfully we are 4 years away from this issue. Please Steelers do not push contracts down the road. pay your peeps now while your franchise QB is on a rookie contract.

ps. be aggressive in free agency or resigning your stars in the next 4 years

Mahomes is with his money. But the NFL has gone crazy over paying the hyped QB who never were good passers. There is a major difference between highest paid and best performing qb's on a " list "

The NFL has several young QB's like Burrow, Allen, Lawrence, and Herbert. Maybe Purdy will join them next year. Only Allen has been paid and given a new deal.

Meanwhile the list of highest paid QB's is not doing well in general and is injured form running. Or in one case has bad character and has been out if football for a while.

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

Eventually, I think teams will learn your you basically have to let non elite QBs walk if they want top deals.

But I think it's hard to sell it to the fan base.

Hyped players and rabid fans should not influence Gm's. Football should. Let them walk and hopefully you rival overpays for them and is stuck in salary cap hell. I think the NFL owners are leaning and GM's are learning the NFL is a hard cap, not baseball or basketball free agency. The GM's who gave out these mega deals to some of the mobile QB's who can't pass, some of which have bad character / sensitive are franchise sinkers. They are out / have bad records in the playoffs, aren't they?

I do not think it's a hard sell to the fans. Fans will show up and root for their football team. Maybe some fans will be initially upset but they will quickly get over it as they see so and so isn't doing great another team and get hungry again as soon as they have lots of $ to spend for free agents for their team.

I don't think there is anyway for teams not to push contracts down the road. This issue may only get worse with more and more top players commanding guaranteed money.
