Now that Trubisky is done, next guy to be benched…

…. Malik Reed, he has just 7 tackles, 2 solo, in 3 games as a starter, none for a loss, and no sacks. I can’t remember a QB pressure from him either.

Horrible. Bring in a guy off the streets and you’ll get that kind of production. Its possible that TJ would rush his return because of the lack of production.

I read today that TJ is scheduled to return Week 6 against Tampa Bay.

we have really missed TJ, we seriously need to address our depth issue at OLB.

Equally seriously, amigo: Do you really want to bring arguably the NFL's best defensive lineman back early in a lost season? If I'm Artie which I'm not, I'd think twice before doing it. Just sayin'

I'd have to agree. What's the rush?

I'm sure his competitive nature is driving him to get back on the field, but I wouldn't bring him back until after the Week 9 bye.

Next guy to be benched? I'll throw Dotson's hat into the ring. His best may have been his beginning and it was downhill since then

The run game has actually improved...
I'd be more inclined to point the finger at Moore and Chuks as being weak points on the OL.

IMO, the next guy to be benched is Gunner.
He's fumbling punts, adds nothing to the return game and adds nothing to the offense.
            Give Sims a shot.

Chuks is grading in the green at PFF, steadily improving year over year. Gets weaker from right to left.

              Chuks: 72.0
              Daniels: 69.6
              Cole: 67.7
              Dotson: 63.0
              Moore: 59.6

Re the OP, this team just doesn't value depth on the edge. It's crazy. Just run the starters into the ground and when one gets hurt, blame injuries.

I think it has to be Gunner.

                  Fumbles on returns are horrible.

Sounds like it was the same reason the Pats let him go.

And my guess is that it's easier to get average results with a replacement return man vs. an edge or an OL. There must be more supply for guys who can at least catch a punt vs. guys who play some of the most coveted positions in the league.

Yup, even with Mitch's misses, he at least threw a few downfield and that loosened up the opposing defense. then, when KP started hitting a few, it stayed loose.

I see improvements in the run game going forward

if TJ isn't ready, i'm not sure who you'd bring in... seems they'll be looking for the next Melvin Ingram next offseason (or the next mid-round, small school Highsmith)

in the mean time, Highsmith has continued to be solid without TJ, which is encouraging. If he'd just hold on to a tackle, he would have had 3 sacks in this past game.

Doesn't TJ play linebacker, and doesn't Art II put a hit out on people that call him Artie?? What part of "The team trailing after 1 quarter doesn't always lose the whole game..." don't you understand??

This is TJ & Tomlin's sneaky genius at work... He gives his quality players at least a few games off during the season, so they're fresh down the stretch... DJ, CC, and 'Muth should be succumbing to injuries, soon...
