And Green at guard. Oh my, Daniels went form a nice catch in free agency to this? He needs to play like he's capable of.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

Gee...who would have thought that the offensive line might suck? I don't think any of us could have possibly seen this coming.

              Spot on Flasteel.

It all starts in the pits on both sides of the ball.

These guys thought they just needed to tinker with it a bit.

And early data suggests we may need 3 QB's to play this season.

I don't have a subscription to The Athletic but Steelers beat guy Mark Kaboly has a headline today that this oline may prevent Kenny Pickett being the starter.

I wouldn't scoff at the suggestion because there is some history of young, promising QB's being shell shocked by early introduction in front of a swinging gate.

Every QB had to run for his life all night and the rushing game was non-existent, and I mean non-existent, not just bad. The front office screwed the OL repair and screwed up badly. They never even TRIED to upgrade the OTs, who are complete sh-t.

On the Freiermuth short completion of about 10 yds Green gets caught flat footed on a swim n does a complete ole'. That is about as bad as it gets.

Well, you can blame Colbert for this. In the recent years, he didn’t use high draft picks on the O-line.

No point in thinking about starting Pickett; why get him killed? I’d rather see MT take the abuse.

Funny, because I just posted in another thread that Kenny P might be the best choice to start at QB for this very same reason. I'm not too worried about his psyche taking a hit, given the dude's mental makeup. I also think he wouldn't take as much punishment behind that crappy line, like the other two would.

To me, Pickett clearly looks to be the most accurate passer while rolling out or on the run. Trubisky did a fantastic job of evading the rush last night, but he does not appear to be as accurate and smooth as Pickett is while on the move. I cited that badly missed TD bomb to a wide-open DJ as an example. But the coaches seemed to intentionally roll the pocket more with Pickett at QB and I think they are taking advantage of this skillset by doing so. I didn't chart the plays or anything, but I could have sworn they did this far more with Pickett than the other guys acknowledging the small sample size). I also don't remember QB pressure being a factor in the short time he was in the game.

Pressure was definitely an issue for the other two. At first, they dropped Mason straight back on all his passes and it was looking more like the 1st quarter with Mitch running for his life. When they started intentionally moving his pocket, Mason's passing improved. But Rudolph doesn't have nearly the wheels that either Trubisky or Pickett does - and again Pickett seems to be superior to both of them while throwing on the run.

In my opinion, Pickett might be the best choice right now to start at QB and it's primarily because of the poor offensive line. That said, I still likely would start Trubisky to begin the season. At the first sign of trouble, Pickett should be ready to take over. Mason needs to stay with the team in the event that either Trubisky or Pickett get hurt. There is no way that a 5th or 6th round draft choice is worth the insurance policy he brings.

I understand what your saying; but I don’t want to subject him to an 18 game beat down because of that line.

No legit QB can function without a legit O-line. So I’m choosing to protect our future QB and let MT be the crash test dummy.

As I’ve been saying, we will know all we need to know after week#1 of the season. And it’s not looking good at the moment.
