Post 1st Preseason game 53-man predictions

With the Pittsburgh Steelers first preseason game of 2022 now completed, it’s time for me to finally throw out my second 53-man roster prediction for the

With the Pittsburgh Steelers first preseason game in the books, I'm updating my Week One, 53-man roster predictions. A couple updates since my last guess

    Offense
    QB - Mitch, Mason, KP
    RB - Harris, Snell, <Warren vs Mcfarland>
WR - DJ, Claypool, Pickens, Austin, Boykin, Gunner
    TE - Freiermuth, Gentry, Heyward
OL - Chuks, Moore, Daniels, Cole, Dotson, Green, Haeg, Hassenauer

    Defense
DL - Heyward, Alualu, Wormley, Loudermilk, Leal, Larry O, Montravius Adams
OLB - TJ, Highsmith, Avery, Tuszka
ILB - Jack, Bush, Spillane, Robinson, <Buddy vs Allen>
CB - Sutton, Wallace, Witherspoon, Maulet, Pierre
S - Minkah, Edmunds, Norwood, Killebrew, Kazee

    ST - Bos, Harvin, Kuntz
Above is a compilation of their guesses on offense, where they are pretty close to one another. For the most part i agree, but here's where I disagree:

    • They disagree on McFarland vs Warren and each pick one. I think they keep both and they'll have to make a cut elsewhere (assuming McFarland continues showing game speed). Is this Snell's time? I could honestly see Harris, Snell, McFarland, Warren all kept
    • On OL, they say Leglue is odd man out. Given the struggles of the o-line, I wouldn't be surprised if he's battling K.Green for a spot. I see the others as pretty secure.
    • I think Allen is secure and instead, this is Robinson vs Buddy. I'm disappointed that i haven't heard much of Buddy in camp. I believe Robinson beats out Buddy because of ST speed/play, even though both are pretty raw at this point. Buddy becomes a PS player if they can hold on to him.
    • I also think 5 each at CB and S is a bit much, ESPECIALLY since Allen is lumped with the LB not DB, but can be used in a pinch. The talent is there, it's just a lot of players. My gut says that someone we kinda like is cut to make room for an extra player elsewhere
    • ST are no brainers

It's interesting to look at this roster overall. Maybe I'm am optimist, but I could see an above .500 season out of this team.

    As a future look
I hate to go off my own topic, but had to throw this in because I don't see as many holes that need filling for 2023 as i thought I might (admittedly, this at a glance without consideration to contracts / injuries / retirement). I like the offense across the board, except O-line. The offense is young and filled with talented skill players. The defense will likely get more drafted players

If Snell is RB2 we are in trouble. It's easier to teach a RB to play special teams than vice versa, and Snell's only value IMO is on teams.

I would like us to find a way to keep John Leglue.

it's not like we have an overabundance of good OL.

I'm struggling with that one, too. But, it would mean cutting K. Green, who the team seems to like. And 8 seems to be the magic number for o-linemen kept.

I honestly think his ability to pass block is why everyone is predicting him to hang around. I think we need to see Warren in more passing sets these next 2 games to see if he can fulfill that primary backup.

Meanwhile, it's why i say they keep 4 RB. Warren gets a year to work on his pass blocking while Benny finishes his rookie deal

There's 52 players. I think he forgets Derek Watt. I'll be shocked if he doesn't make the roster.

I don't see M. Allen secure, but Buddy Johnson didn't play well in preseason 1 (It's one game, I know but...) and I don't read anything good from hin in camp.

At this point I prefer Leglue over Green, or they keep both and only 9 DB.

I agree, if Snell is your RB2 you are in trouble. I keep Mc and Warren over him.

I think the deep behind the starters OLB is scary.

Leglue can play a couple positions. That’s valuable on game day. I would they don’t try to put him in PS.

what’s Allen done in his time here? They’re going to cut a 4th round pick from last year at a supposed position of need? If they do they better be sure he makes the practice squad.

there’s alway those little nicks and bumps too where they might use IR so they don’t have to make a tough cut

Leglue has position flexibility although his shot gun snaps are in need of repair. He can play all along the line. Green vs Leglue to me is what it may come down to. I would go Leglue for what it's worth. Could Green get moved??? IDK ....maybe for something late.

That was on me - I tried to compile the two guys lists into one.

the crazy thing about Green is that he really is super mobile... he peeled of the double-team and was in front of MT on the first TD pass as a blocker... and THEN was the guy in the end zone picking up Gunner... he got there QUICK

-McFarland is in and competition is between Snell and Warren. They are more similar in style and McFarland brings something different than either and finally looks healthy. If Snell then Warren goes to the PS, if Warren then Snell is gone.

-Buddy to the PS, he hasn't shown much from what we've seen and heard.

Sims warren and Robinson still making plays in preseason game # 2

First 2 shoukd make the team. Robinson also with a chance to make 53. Definitely will be on Psquad if not

Vaughans almost took another short pass to the house. Cant imagine him not making the psquad
