I believe more NFL retirees die of heart disease then any other cause by far. In a study by Science magazine published in 2019, 10 times as many NFL retirees died from heart disease as brain problems.

The situation with any serious athletic endeavor taken up as a youth, is the cold turkey stoppage of that endeavor when one ages . You must never stop exercising if you did so heavily at one time.

I have no sons, if I did I would encourage them to play football. It is good to get you a** kicked as a young man. I played 5 years of organized football and had my a** kicked and kicked my share and I am the better man for it.
