Time to go to work (Pickett signs with Steelers...)

I think that camp will be an open competition, but that KP will have to earn his spot, he can't win the #1 by default. He won't be thrown in unless ready. However, I think he is the preferred #2 and that will also be up to him. If he looks ready then he will be #2 over MR.I truly doubt KP is anything more than #3 for most of the season unless MT gets hurt and MR has to step in. I see MR falling on his face yet again and then KP rises to take the job. I do think KP will be the future for the Steelers. But, for how long I don't know. I hope Felt is right and he "balls out"Comment

I think KP would have to perform a disaster to not be #2 over MR. The writing is on the wall; they don't draft you at 20 overall to put you at #3 heading into the season. It would take a train wreck to prevent KP from not being at least #2, with the hopes and every opportunity to grab the #1 spot during the season if MT doesn't post a winning record.I think that camp will be an open competition, but that KP will have to earn his spot, he can't win the #1 by default. I think Ben was 3 going into the season, but was first man up after injury.sigpic
In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Agree. I don't think that Mason can do anything about that either. It would strictly be KP falling flat on his face. If KP is good, and MR is better, that will not keep Mason ahead of him, just more likely to be showcased in the pre-season.I think KP would have to perform a disaster to not be #2 over MR. Right, but Charlie Batch's preseason knee injury moved Ben into the #2 spot.
But I still think Ben would've taken over as the starter after Maddox's injury, even if Batch was available.Comment

The only way you have a 1st round rookie QB as #3 is if you already have a proven starter in place.
If there’s a open competition for starting QB, your 1st round pick QB should be no lower than #2 and grooming to be the starter.
Otherwise, it doesn’t make sense to take a QB in the 1st round to run the scout team instead of grooming to be #1.
MR hasn’t done anything really special in 4 seasons and doubtful to do anything real special now.Comment

a few of those guys have guns for sure. I’ll disagree, his arm was elite.
rhose 10-20 yard out you saw from constantly I think prove that.
And his long ball was fine. I think it’s nitpicking.
brady accuracy is up there with the best ever. That’s also arm talent.
lt isn’t just who the throw the ball the hardest or the furthestComment

Accuracy is part of it, sure, so is touch, but neither Manning nor Brady can throw off-platform, and either dump it off or curl up in a ball when a pass rusher approaches.a few of those guys have guns for sure. I’ll disagree, his arm was elite.

What don't people understand about QB2 being a different position from QB1?? MR is a career QB2 (There is ample evidence of his travails as QB1...) and has his position wrapped up... It will be interesting to watch KP8 and Trub-bull fight it out for QB1... I'm thinking Pittsburgh would not have used the 20th pick in the draft if they had confidence in the bench-warmer from Buffalo... I'm sure Colbert knew that his successor would have plenty of quality QBs to choose from next season, yet he took KP8 anyway... I've learned to doubt Kevin Colbert at my own peril... Kevin Colbert obviously saw something that gave him a reason to draft the NFL-ready KP8....... He knows something....I think KP would have to perform a disaster to not be #2 over MR. I get what you are saying and agree. When people are talking about "arm talent" it literally IS how far you can throw it, or pure velocity on shorter throws. Thus the silly raves about heaves done by Willis, or Bens comments about Haskins, "he can throw a football through a car was and not get it wet".a few of those guys have guns for sure. I’ll disagree, his arm was elite.

But in an absolute sense you are right. By THAT standard I'd say Pickett has a better arm (accurate) than he is credited with.
But by the measure of simple strength, I'd say the consensus is Peyton has a "good" but not "great" arm.sigpic

nothing wrong with living to play another down.
Brady is tough as nails and I saw him take some serious shots early in his career to complete big passes.Steelers 27
