Just a guess. We do well vs running QB's not because of our mediocre DB's, it our pass rush by rushing 4 and the rest dropping back to a man scheme with Fitzpatrick covering the deep route and daring them to throw it deep. The 4 rush guys ( thanks to TJ Watt and Heyward ) are incredible. This defensive formula makes the running QB's aside form Josh Allen not play well. We got Jackson's # because he is a below average passer who get most of his passing yard by a wide open TE Andrews. We limit him, check and see. Watch the clips, your will see. Cover Andrews and your really limit Jackson's passing yards forcing him to throw it outside.
For " qb's " who can really run, the worst thing is no pressure because and a safe zone, giving the running qb room to run. They have a low YPR vs us for a reason, we don't play a them this way. I thing the NFL will wise up and play them this way in time.
I think I'm on to something here...Football fanatics ( or X- Coaches, current coaches of all levels and players out there who played on all levels you never know who a posters is with the hidden ID's ) who spend a little leisure time studying the game, what do you think? Largo, are you out out there?Last edited by Joel Buchsbaum; 06-20-2022, 09:48 AM.Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.
Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.
*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. *** -
Take a look at the sacks/gm for each. The Steelers are relentless at going after the QB. Watching TJ rush the QB against Baltimore. He often completely ignores the RB as an option and heads straight for LJ.Just a guess. Right, hit the running QB who's a below average passer. That's what he does. Do not rush 3 and play a soft zone giving them QB room to run. Let the QB use his option, and legally hit him as he is outside the pocket and a runner.Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. Justin Herbert gouged the Steelers for 90 yards on 9 carries. How was it decided who made the list?Comment

While this is true, I wouldn't necessarily lump him into 'running QBs'. He averages maybe 15 yds/gm. Had his best rushing game of his career against the Steelers last season. Not too shocking considering the DL and ILB playing in that game. Herbert (and Burrow) are actually the perfect antidote to the current Steelers defense; highly accurate, mobile QBs. Steelers are gonna need to solve that puzzle.Comment

I would not call Herbert or Burrow " running qb's " .I called them skilled passers ( very good accuracy ) with and arm and some mobility. Waiting to see what they bring in their third season. Josh Allen is a freak! Someone that big, who can run and be featured, has a great arm, and good accuracy! He rips 'em up deep. Needs a little work on the reads, but that's spitting hairs. These three QB's are the future of the NFL, IF there was a draft on all players they would go in picks #1-5, I think. Every defense needs how to defend them. I say 2-3 are hall of fame players in the making. While this is true, I wouldn't necessarily lump him into 'running QBs'. He averages maybe 15 yds/gm. Excellent analysis. It actually was a weaknessn in the past. As great as he was, running QBs were Lebeaus kryptonite.Just a guess. As NorthCoast said TJ is being told to ignore the backs and hit Lamarr every chance he can get. Secondary covers TJs running back responsibilities.
Actually, that role of hitting Lamarr, ignoring backs also was done by Bud at times instead of TJ.
Can you admit we now "scheme" running QBs better than anybody?sigpic
In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:
TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than CowherComment

I admit it. We do. One of the many reasons I want the Ravens to lock LJ down for at least a decade!!Excellent analysis. It actually was a weaknessn in the past. As great as he was, running QBs were Lebeaus kryptonite.

so you still can't bring yourself to admit that you were wrong about LJ being a total flop and loser in the NFL, huh?
the best you can come up with is a feeble attempt to move the goalposts.
you are a sad and pathetic loser....Comment
