Pickens stands out in mini camp, and rookie updates

Pickens is standing out. He fast, faster than any Steeler except rookie Austin. He runs routes and cuts smoothly, as good as Johnson. He's got the 2nd best acceleration on the team. And his ability go up and get the football is the best on team, better than Claypools. And he 6'3'' tall. Yeah they are in shorts but based on the reports I heard we could have a star in the making!

Rookie Robison is thick and fast. We might have something here.

Pickett doing well but not as well as Trubisky.

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

    Who was this reported by?
In shorts lots of offensive skill guys look good. Why ? They know they're not getting drilled. They also don't have to beat the jam in most practices. So until the pads go on be careful drinking the Kool-Aid. I hope Pickens is a future #1. He's one of us. However until we see it repeated in live practice and the pre-season and of course regular season games lets slow the roll.

I saw one observer say he thinks Pickens is ALREADY our best receiver.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

      TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

Note to Claypool; this is how you highpoint a ball.

          Here's to seeing more of this all season long;

            Some additional takeaways -

The Pittsburgh Steelers are showing what they can - which is more than what was expected.

You actually need a "high ball" North.

If the trajectory is to go though a defender at 5 feet off the ground you cannot high point a catch.

I think we may have a true #1 WR in the making. This stable of WRs could be fierce. Someone tell DJ it is not wise to hold out. But if he does, he does.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

According to Kaboly, DJ is unhappy with his contract situation

if Pickens and Austin ball out this preseason, do we think about moving DJ while his trade value is still relatively high?

This would be the smartest thing the Steelers can do in camp. Trade him while the value is still high. We be wise to make this move after camp starts but before the third pea-season game to get a better feel of what the rookies offer.

                      Steelers aren't trading DJ.

The lack of respect that some members of this fanbase have towards DJ make me scratch my head.

DJ is the ONE WR on this team that doesn't need to be "schemed" to get open. That was the case last year and it will be the case this year.

DJ can beat a variety of NFL defensive coverages based on his skill set. He is still a young WR that is growing to reach his potential. I don't know why some Steelers fans don't recognize this at this point?

I have nothing against him, just don’t think he is worth 80 million dollars.

It all depends how the contract is structured. Teams will always need to pay for top tier NFL talent regardless of how fans feel.

Sports are simply entertainment. Who is really worth X amount of dollars for the entertainment? No one really.

Players get paid based on a variety of factors. DJ is talented, produced, and has loads of potential to produce more and better.

                            I don't know DJ's ultimate value financially.

I know his value as a WR to the Steelers on the field. He produced at a high level, he can beat man coverage, and zone coverages. What is that worth to a team? Time will tell.

His value to the team is catching balls quickly for short yardage and doing very little with them. Last year and this year will be different at qb and wr. Last season I was not impressed in may areas. Ability to convert 1st downs on down 1-3. His lack of ability to create big plays short, medium or long. His lack of physicality in the red zone, as a blocker, or as jump ball type of WR. DBs do NOT give him much of a cushion for a reason. His accelerates fast but unfortunately for him his lacks that 5ht gear to blow by people beyond the 5-8 yard quick outs. I find him easy to defend, as he's not the type of WR who your double or demands safety attention. He's a real zero as a blocker and is a small guy. If I were to show a mock field full of x's where he caught the football, and triangle where he ended up ( YAC ) you'd yack. He's actually easy to defend. Defenses are willing to give up yards on 3rd down, sometimes on second. I don't trust his hands ( fumbles too much and drop them ) either. He's not a #1WR , in fact his catch percentage is very low when you consider what the defense gives him. And his yard per catch is very low.
