Way Too Early; Predict Pickett's Performance

    Here's a lead-off to predicting Pickett's 2022 season courtesy B/R;

The 2022 rookie class wasn't considered to be the most talented by evaluators and analysts , but none of that matters after the picks are made...

    20. Kenny Pickett, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers

Stat prediction: (8 games) 62 percent completion rate, 1,600 yards, 10 TDs, 6 INTs

This year's quarterback class was maligned entering the draft, and then the actual results confirmed how low the league was on the top names as Kenny Pickett was the only quarterback taken before the third round. Pittsburgh has a good situation for Pickett to be successful, but he has an uphill battle to win the starting job in 2022 against Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph.

Pickett's lack of arm strength will stand out against Trubisky's velocity in training camp. While Trubisky is a flawed player, don't forget he went No. 2 overall in 2017 for a reason. Trubisky looked great in shorts during the predraft period thanks to impressive mobility and arm strength.

We'll project Pickett starts the second half of the year after Pittsburgh realizes it needs a change in order to compete against the deep AFC North. Pickett has great short accuracy and will occasionally take deeper risks. That means we should expect lower yards per attempt and reasonably low turnovers as well as an inflated completion rate.

I think Trubisky gets the start and plays most of the season. Pickett will see spot duty and maybe mop up. I don't think he will make it to 10 TDs this year.

The only variable I see is if the season goes badly south for whatever reason then Pickett may get the nod the last month or so of the season.

Don’t forget Mitch going #2 for a reason in 2017?

Not sure that’s a positive considering where he ended up last year. Seems like a negative not a positive.

No reason to speculate. Everything he does at ota's , mini camp training camp will all be documented. If I make it to Latrobe I'll tell it to ya straight.

I think they would have been happy to roll with Trubisky if Pickett didn't fall to them at 1.20.

That said - 1st rounders are drafted to start, especially when the coaches and FO talk so much about having a pro-ready guy. It's Pickett's job to lose in the modern NFL, he is THEIR guy, Trubisky is A guy, and Mason is SOME guy.

          17 games - 4,297 yards - 31 TDs, 14 INTs - 65.3 completion % - OROY

I don't think Pickett will start until he either earns it or Trubisky proves he is not the guy. I just can't see Tomlin giving PT to a player who doesn't earn it, just because of his draft status.

I mean isn't speculation the fun part? Pickett right now as he stands isn't as ready as Trubisky or Rudolph lets be real. Both have NFL experience and Pickett isn't an elite talent like a Mahomes. Even Mahomes needed a year. Justin Fields was so much better than Pickett and yet he struggled last year. Listen, I am willing to give Pickett a chance with some time. But, if the Steelers roll him out too early it will be a mistake.

Did Mahomes NEED to sit? Probably not. I

Justin Fields struggled because Justin Fields struggled. This has nothing to do with Fields being better or worse than Pickett.

Mac Jones isn’t “better” than Justin Fields physically but he is probably “better” at running a pro style offense that is built around his strengths.

and I think Pickett is more of a Mac Jones. Not the most athletic, doesn’t have the biggest arm but pro ready day and the best fit for the offense.

its damn near Mac Jones stats his rookie year, lol. I looked it up just now since I
                        made the comparison.

                        Mac Jones: 22 TD’s, 13 INT’s, 3801 yards

Why can’t Pickett have a similar rookie
                        year?

Maybe because he won't have the OL that Jones has?

We aren’t going to have the same OL as last year either. It will be better.. and it will be good enough for Kenny to do his thing.

Pickett will also have way better weapons than Mac had.
