Since he supposedly had other offers but took the Steelers I will assume that this was his market value. Otherwise he would be foolish to turn down anything more substantial.Comment

True, but there are other possibilities.
If someone like Hamilton does fall, $2.5M for a backup is not too bad.
If Edmunds starts and does look good they can always come to an agreement longer-term after the season.
All doors still open.Comment

Wow.. surprised he signed for that. Heck, we paid Banner twice as much to ride the pine last year.
Didnt Marcus Allen just sign for comparable pay? Honestly, this is peanuts for a starting safety of his caliber. Wish we could have signed him for 3 or 4 years at that rate.Comment

Its possible. I wouldn't be surprised if we focus on OL, DL, WR in the early rounds.
I think folks forget we have Joseph on the roster... a quality depth player who can start at a minimum.Comment

It’s a crazy cheap deal. Recently some were arguing he’s a younger version and nearly as good as the Honey Badger.
And now the Steelers sign him for less than we paid Allen, Boykin, and even Derek Watt.
On some level, that’s gotta irritate Edmunds. He’s been a full time starter and he’s getting paid less and valued less than backups that have barely played and special teamers.sigpicComment

I agree, crazy cheap (I was expecting something in the neighborhood of $4M/yr). Still, a quick check on spotrac shows it puts him in the top 10 for SS on a total cash basis. It’s a crazy cheap deal. Recently some were arguing he’s a younger version and nearly as good as the Honey Badger.

Must have taken the 'Tomlin discount'. You know, "players will do anything to play for Tomlin"....

Agreed. Hopefully we will offer him a very respectful 3 to 4 year deal after this year if he remains on his current trajectory. It’s a crazy cheap deal. Recently some were arguing he’s a younger version and nearly as good as the Honey Badger.

Hes quietly gotten better every year.. and should be in his prime.Comment

Seems like a good signing to me...but I also wanted to have him back.
A little cheaper than what I thought. And I'm surprised that it's only 1 year.
I wonder if that was part of the reason that it took so long. We seem to prefer 2 years for non-minimum deals so we can push the cap around a bit.
Maybe he wanted to be able to test the market again next season.Comment

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.
Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.
*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***Comment

Yep. We can admit now that Edmunds was a draft mistake in round one, and only two teams made him an offer in free agency, none of which offered him a real chance to start except for us, which is why we have him back for one year on a cheap contact. I like safey in round four. By the way, welcome back Largo.Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years.
