Draft Strategy - What Do You Do?

Running thru a mock sim and was presented with the best player on the board multiple times as an Edge defender. Each time it was a big ranking difference to the point where it seems to me you have to take the guy vs the next guy slotted to 10 picks lower.

Do you take a guy you don't need? Do you try to trade out? Do you take a lesser player at your pick out of necessity.

Here's who I drafted and I ended up with 3 Edge guys.

Travon Walker - Edge - GA
Desmond Ridder - QB - Cincy
Brandon Walker - LB - PSU
Jeff Gunter - Edge - Coastal Carolina
Amare Barno - Edge - VA Tech
Bo Melton - WR - Rutgers
Jack Coan - QB - ND

Heck, I ended up with 3 Edge players and another LB. I also grabbed 2 QBs and 1 WR.

I actually like all the picks and thought I did a decent job of getting BPA. I would even live with grabbig 2 QBs and can reason why I'd do it.

But all the LBs are crazy.

    What would you have done?

We need a complete re-boot not a band-aid approach. I fix the defense, draft one reciever high ( second or third round ), and gasp trade Jonhson if possible for a first round pick, or more. We can find or QB next year. Lets not kid ourself we need a lot. Free agency is disappoint, out of the players we re-signed only the Bears guard is a solid NFL starter. The Qb Trubisky is a wait and see. The OC will design the offense with the players we have around him. Proably lots of play action, which would work with Harris, 'Muth, and helping out the OL pass block/ Claypool get deep. QB run options are now in the playbook.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

You know you're a true Steelers fan when almost half your picks in a mock draft a edge rushers.

        Well done Flippy!

Hopefully we take the BPA in the first 3 rounds at these positions...in any order... DL, OL, WR, Safety.

I’ve been playing around with a couple that show up on the top of a google search.

I like the pro football network and pff.com.

I’ll have to double check which others I’ve run thru. I’ve gotten addicted to these and I think they help change your perspective on how the team drafts and some of the challenges.

Other than your overlooking FA Myles Jack, I agree. Did it take me 83 years to learn PATIENCE?

I would like our draft if it went that way
