Real good player even if it's not a sexy pick. Fills a need. Bigger than Edmunds, faster than Edmunds , better tackler and much better ball skills. He's going to be a real good player at the next level. Hope it's in the B &G and a pair of 4's on top of that. A 4 now a 4 in 23 just what this team needs.
I've seen him mocked in the 2nd and 3rd round. I fear we repeat 2018 and take him at 1.20. Steelers always draft for need, occasionally they get the BPA if those lines intersect (e.g. DeCastro).

all picks being equal, 4 for 1 is great... except all picks aren't equal... otherwise, we'd trade our 1st for a dozen 7th rounders...

I think trades like this so late in the round would only happen on the draft floor.

And I think Colbert has said in the past that they will only trade down if they have multiple guys rated the same and they can still get one of them. So basically, it would mean that we don't really see any difference between 20 and 34 or whatever. And if that's the case, would another team really be super excited to move up? I guess maybe if they had a strong need at a place where we were already strong?

I don't think we will have 14 guys rated the same @ pick 20.

If we traded down, I think it would be in something like the 21 - 25 range to pick up a late 3rd or late 4th.

I also think that we value the 5th year option enough so that there is basically a 0% chance we trade out of the 1st even if we have lots of guys we value similarly when our pick rolls around.

We are looking at this as a theoretical math equation instead of a human question.

Come pick 20. Steelers receive an offer for the pick. Will they look at the trade value chart to see if the deal gives them value? No. They will look at the name at the top of their list. The young man that they had scouts watching for the better part of four years, the young man who they met at the Senior Bowl, the combine, his pro day, and maybe had invited for a visit. Perhaps it is someone who Tomlin went out for dinner with and ordered wings. The young man they have had multiple conversations with. About football, about family, and about life.

If the team feels deeply enough about that young man then they turn the offer down. Even if they think there is a 50-50 chance that he - or someone they like just as much will be there at #35.

Not interested in trading out of the 1st (5th yr Option) ... Having said that I'd be happy picking up an additional 3rd & 4th.

Maybe look at someone climbing into the 1st Round. Someone like Sky Moore.

Yes, the problem with the math equation is that it's flawed, not only from the human perspective, but from a value perspective. There's a reason those guys are 1st rounders... and that the trade value chart gives so much weight to the place you are selected. The higher the selection, the more likely you are to find an impact player. Neither pick is guaranteed, but if we're doing math problems, we need to include probability.

IMO, this really isn't a team that needs 3rd and 5th rounders - there's more than enough of THAT kind of talent on this team.

More simply put (specifically using a position of need), are we really saying that we'd prefer 2 James Washington's over 1 Justin Jefferson?

+1. This is why I think they probably won't trade down. And that they will only move a few spots if they do.

I was mostly showing the trade chart to demonstrate that the trade proposal here required at least 4 teams.

The other problem trading too far down is you give every other team more chances to trade back in front of you and it’s impossible to guess how things will play out.

If they really want Pickett they will probably need to trade for the Saints first pick to get him (unless the Saints plan on grabbing him). I hope they don't decide to make a move but who knows.
