I was mostly positive on Kordell. He did stuff that basically no one else in the league was doing. But he was maddeningly inconsistent.
He was kind of like the rest of the team at the time. Pretty good, but not quite great. But it was so tantalizing because there were flashes of greatness.Comment

what made you think he would be an all pro WR?
14 receptions his first year
17 receptions his second year.
Its like saying Taysum Hill would be an All Pro RB if he didnt play QB.
No.. those were mostly gadget plays.Steelers 27

led us to 2 AFCCG’s and we kept switching OC’s with him. He was fine for what he was, just wished we embraced his style of play and went RPO back then.I was mostly positive on Kordell. He did stuff that basically no one else in the league was doing. But he was maddeningly inconsistent.

But it was fun to watch before it all fell apart. Still a shame they created the gay rumors about him.Steelers 27

I, too, think he could have been extremely good at WR, or as a WR/RB. He obviously had the tools. I think he could have even been much better than he was at QB, IF they had adjusted the offense to tailor it to his strengths. I'd love to have seen what he could have done in an offense more like what the Ravens run. Instead, he was utilized as though he was a conventional pocket QB.Comment

THAT... When he had Chan Gailey, he excelled. Chan was good and going with what he did best.
Unfortunately, the rest of the league said, "wow, if he's that good, make him a HC" and the team lost Chan. Kordell never was the same...2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment

yup.. lets take a mobile QB and force him to be a pocket passer. That will work out well.
Even still, the guy had more highlights and success than a lot of traditional pocket passers.Steelers 27

Agreed. I was pretty disappointed when he said he wouldn't be a "Slash" in the one AFCC. We really needed his flash. It felt like he was quitting on the team.I, too, think he could have been extremely good at WR, or as a WR/RB. He obviously had the tools. I remember when Rooney said that Heinz Field was going to be the "House that Kordell built."Steel City Mafia
