    Best Mock Simulation Ever

Wow! Being a draftnik I do a mock simulation or two every day, in part to see how players are trending. What I think we've seen the past few years and will definitely see this year is that wild variability in picks 30-150, where need, fit and particular preferences make the 30 for one the 150 for the other. Fun, but very hard to predict the way things fall.

So with that, I did a simulator where I made one additional pre-draft assumption--we either re-sign Edmunds or get another FA safterty to start for us. So here it goes:

    1. Trade with Buffalo. They get #20 and our #4 in '23; we get #25 and their #2 (57). I accepted this trade because there were 3 WRs on the board at 20 that I felt comfortable picking at #25. The pick:
Drake London, WR. JuJu's replacement. Gives us a viable 3rd WR in yeat one.

    2. Travis Jones-NT. Here's the run stuffing NT we all want. Starter by mid-season if not sooner.

    2. (57, from Buffalo) Boye Mafe-OLB. Rising prospect, gives us a legit 3rd OLB to spell TJ and Alonzo for 20-25 quality snaps per game right away.

    3. Leo Chenal-ILB. More importantly, a Buck to fill the role Vince filled so well for us. Probably splits time this year as he learns out system, will be a plus ST guy, too.

    4. Rasheed Walker-OT. Bit of an underachieving, but posseses skills to be a good swing OT in the future or even a starter.

    6. Bo Melton-WR. Smaller, faster, quicker WR than London with some KR potential.

    7. Dustin Crum-QB. He takes the place of whoever gets 3rd QB position in the competition, saving us some cash down the road.

    7. Reed Blankenship-S. Smart SS backup who will be a plus ST guy.

I doubt it falls this way, but you never know and I wouldn't mind. If it did.

I like that trade (providing the Steelers top targets are off the board already) and what you did with the picks. Would have preferred an offensive tackle earlier - particularly since I've never heard of that OLB - but nice looking mock.

I’d smash my TV if we took Daxton Hill in the first round.

I think it's because there's not a fit for him here. He's a poor man's Minkah at best, he's not a real SS, so there's not a good fit here, and you'd usually expect your 1st rounded too either start or co tribute quite a bit, year one.

He's a good player, IMHO, just not a player that fits us right now. Choosing him would be a pretty clearly wasted pick.

I've been messing with profootballnetwork.com/mockdraft and came up with the following. If its a 2 year rebuiid this could help. I doubt Detroit would give up the picks they did to move up 1.20 but here's the mock (only 4 rounds, didn't feel like going through the rest).

              2.52 Travis Jones, DT, UConn
              3.66 Alex Pierce, WR, Cincinnati
              3.84 Daniel Faalele, OT, Minnesota
              4.97 Coby Bryant, CB, Cincinnati
              4.138 JT Woods, S, Baylor

              2023 Detroit 1st
              2023 Detroit 3rd
